Has anyone run out FI Inlet recently, if so, how was depth and was it marked? I am supposed to run from FI to Shinnecock a week from Monday - any info would be appreciated as I have heard different things but nothing from people who actually ran it. Saw a new 45 Dancer under Sea Tow today in Lindenhurst and was told he sheared both pods off - trying to find out where / what he hit. Thanks.

Call Sea Tow GSB, they'll give you the latest on FI Inlet. The emergency dredging has been completed but they left funky approach. You can also check Sea Tow's Facebook page, they have updated pictures.

I will second contacting Sea Tow GSB, and definitely check out their FB page.

Thanks to you both, it's very informative. I am a member so will call them mid week as well for any updates.

After you receive the info you need can you please post. Im heading into fi memorial weekend and would like to know if I should stay inside and run the state channel or run outside.

probably safer running outside unless the dredge gets out of the way. Amityville and Lindenhurst cut buoys are in, so one would assume the cuts are navigable??? I did notice that SeaTow was pulling a beautiful 54SD that had the pods ripped off the bottom of the boat - i think in or around lindenhurst...and there is a Meridian in the lift at my marina. The owner said that it was just sold by MM in Lindenhurst and headed west towards the city for delivery in White Plains and wandered a little to far out of the channel and did about 10k worth of damage. Be very careful out in GSB.....THe usual shallow areas are probably 6" to 1 ft shallower..

I will post after the trip. Todd, all appears to be good post Sandy, thanks - got very lucky. I am actually going to move the boat east this summer - going to home base in Peconic at lighthouse marina - will be my first summer in 25 years not being at fire island! I am back monitoring csr - let me know if you head east at all this year.

Take note that the railroad bridge over the shinnecock canal still has scaffolding hanging from it (reducing clearance by 2 feet) and I passed under it last year at mid tide and just barely cleared it. Im sure I'm higher than you but considering the tide, it could be a problem for you. This year, I think I'll go around Montauk since I only have to back track to Three Mile Harbor. I'll be making the trip in a few weeks so please post any info on the inlet. Thanks......And be safe.....

Amittyvill cut was my main path to fi last year. I was really comfortable worth that route. Ron you said its marked but like you questioned, is it navigatable? I think for my first few runs from zacks bay to fi inlet im going to use the the state channel. Long but probably the safest if the ocean is snotty. ANY info on the condition of the state channel?

Someone I know spoke to Sea Tow and the boat with the sheared pods did it at the end of the Lindenhurst Cut by making the turn too tight and hitting the SW corner of the cut.

Have not heard anything about FI inlet since dredging was finished.

BTW

For my Nassau neighbors, Sea Dog Creek where it intersects with Reynolds by Marina West looked very narrow and shallower than last year. It also appeared that several buoys were off station.

I had channel22 on for about 6 hours while fishing yesturday. Tons and tons of calls came into cg about trouble spots. I tried writting down all the info but everytime they said the coordinates way to fast so I gave up. But like I said it went on for hours and hours. Even a couple trouble calls over 16 about hitting submerged objects. Thank god no maydays or reports of taking on water but there still is crap out there. Again any info about the state channel or fi would be greatly appreciated as soon as you hear it I would love to. Thanks.

Ron thanks for the info on the state up until tobay

Here's an update - heading out 6am Monday. After speaking to a few local captains, decision is to head west to jones inlet rather than deal with uncertainty of fire island inlet and the dredging equipment around captree. I was told that the state channel is fine from Lindenhurst cut to jones (other than the missing green on the south end of the cut mentioned above). Will add around 45 min to trip but will be less stress and safer. I will update Monday night. Thanks all for your input.

Thanks Russ,

Have a safe trip! We will miss you at Fire Island this summer!

Folks , I just put Sea Tow great South Bay on my Facebook page and the info is awesome. They are out there everyday and their reports are super informative. They post Picts as well. Give it a look.

Amityville Cut, Lindenhurst cut... Buoys in.
Skinny water in the amityville cut, but went through at low tide. Just stay in the middle and dont look at your depthfinder...............
