I guess I shall order some new ones if it comes to it but I am not so sure it's all in the cables. I am trying to soak them in diesel fuel to slick them up some. The starboard side is so stiff and tight but after pulling it all apart and playing with the cables, I am thinking it's a combination of the cables and the controller. Both are real tight.........Anyone tried this? "Soaking in diesel"? if so how did it work if at all?

The control box is just a mechanical thing. Somebody put it together once upon a time, so it can be taken apart. Just break it down and clean the parts, with emery paper and light oil if necessary. Then put it back together with a suitable lubricant on the moving parts.

The cables are a different story. Most are swedged on the ends and cannot be taken apart easily....on those it isn't worth the effort and time to try to salvage them........pitch 'em and get some new ones. If the core can be pulled out of the liner, they can be cleaned and re- lubricated if the pitting isn't too bad.

Well I did the [FONT=Verdana, Arial, Helvetica]Marvel Mystery Oil thing and WOW it worked and worked very well.
The controller I found after some close looking has a detent and friction lock set screw. I was able to back it out and get it to feel the same as the port controller.

Thanks for the tip DaveS. just what the DR ordered!

diesel full should work, depends on how frozen they are, i have tried it several times before but adding a good amount of motor oil ive got laying around, then try shifting once a day, let them soak, and soak, untill they come loose, this method works on steering cables also, sea ray steering cables are prone for freezing. hows the sea camper coming?
