I don't normally spill my guts to people, but I know there are a lot of pet lovers here, so it goes...Yesterday my stray cat of 15 yrs passed away suddenly due to a mishap while he was at play. He accidently conked his head on our bedroom door as he was about to pounce on to the back of my office chair. (I use one of our extra bedrooms as an office as I work out of our home). He'd done it 100's of times...yesterday he just missed his timing. At first I thought he'd knocked himself out, then realized differently. I tried to revive him but it wasn't enough.

We don't have kids, so Nick (my furry four legged son) was like a child to me...I'm a farm kid and a hunter, I am no stranger to animal death and knew this day would come one day..I just didn't think it would end that quick.

This liitle guy was the cornerstone to the name of our boat, Stray Cats, and my screen name on this forum. He made quite an impact on two humans.

I don't normally use emocons, but this one fits my wife and I today. :smt089:smt089

IF YOU HAVE PET, GIVE AN EXTRA SQUEEZE AND SPEND AN EXTRA MINUTE WITH THEM TODAY, YOU JUST NEVER KNOW......

I am sorry for your loss. It is not easy losing a loving pet. I've gone through a few in my lifetime.

Sorry to hear that. Losing a pet is very hard.

My next pet is going to be a turtle so I can poke a stick at it everyday, not get attached to it, and it will outlive me.

I am sorry to here about that, I understand how you feel, we had a orange tabby female named Turkey, the name fit her, she lived to be 21 1/2 years old before we lost her, after our daughter moved out she became our child. We have two cats now but I still miss Turkey, there will never be another one, we knew that when we adopted the two we have now. You will probably never forget but you will want another just remember there won't be another just like that one. We also had to replace two dogs and now one of the replacements is having problems. Just like family.

Jeff, I am sad to hear about Nick. I am a big guy with a little cat named Nikki. My friends tease me to death about her, but she is my little buddy. I can't fathom the day I lose her. Oh, and no kids, and no more wife, so the cat is my kid.

Sorry for your loss. After we lost our dog this summer it was really hard not having her in the house.

We lost a 15 year old and a 17 year old within about 6 months of each other. Luckily I found them both first. The lil dickens sure can work their way into your heart. Hope it gets better for you soon with maybe an adoption.

(and Gary is dreaming.. you know a damn turtle would wind up biting his toe)

This is why we can not go see “Marley and Me”, as I have heard it has a bad ending.

Stray Cat,

Very little compares to the sadness of losing a loyal friend such as yours. I am very sorry to hear of this. My wife and I are both animal lovers. She sends her sympathies as well.

Regards,

Jeff

Awe man Stray, I'm sorry to hear that.

I went to dinner on Friday night with great friends at a great restaurant. The waitress mentioned being nervous about leaving her puppy at home. I showed her a pic on my phone of our friend and dock neighbors puppy who was just diagnosed with stage II cancer. (not a year old yet) Her reaction, combined with not quite enough blood in my vodka stream, brought me to tears right then and there.

Ugh.

Jim, I hear you about Marley and Me. I couldn't see "I am Legend" because I heard that a look-a-like to this guy didn't survive:

I can't put myself through that!

Hey I love my animals more than most peoples - I have had dogs all my life - My daughters have had cats

I hate the take em in & have em put down even worse - 15 is good for a cat ain't it ?

Wait a bit & get another (but not too long if they bring joy to your life)

Nothing wrong with Loving things or :smt089

Stray,
I also am sorry for your loss. I also am without kids and have had a jack russell terrier for 8-1/2 years. She was 2 when we got her and she hated me and all men then. She is my buddy now, I can understand your pain, hang in there.

Sorry to hear about your loss. An associate of mine had two1 yr old lab pups. They wandered into another property as he went inside the house to get something. He heard gunshots. Found both pups dead. 2 Days after Christmas. No witness, no inquiry by Sheriff Dept. How phucked up is that? Needless to say he and his wife were crushed.

At least your went somewhat naturally and not by some redneck.

This guy is an ex Navy Seal, and likely payback will be hell for someone.

You still get attached to Turtles. i had one for 15 years. I finally had to set it free cause it got way too big. I still go and visit it every summer in the lake.

Fetch - I looked it up, Nick was around 77 years old in human years. If I live to 77 it will be another miracle!

Uplate - Seals stick together, who ever did it will be served by the wrath of more than one of them!

Guys - Thanks a lot for the kind words. It is humbling to think how macho we think we are until something happens to a pet. Today, I AM A WIMP

Sorry about your loss & on your suggestion I'll give my wife's cat Marble a good scratching tonight while we watch the news. Funny, it like me more than her & I do little to deserve such affection.

8 hrs later.....scratching done well & in the end, she nipped at me like always...think there's a love hate relationship here on her part.

Stray Cat - So sorry to hear about your loss. The only time I've cried in my adult life was when we lost our first dog, Ginger. We now live on a big farm with 9 dogs and no kids. I know what you mean, they are your BABIES! Several of ours are 10 yrs+. I shudder to think what it will be like to lose them in the future, but death is a part of life. Cling to your memories - time will heal the wound.

I cried like a baby when we had to put our first dog down. Like outliving a child, doesn't seem like the natural order of things...it helps if you ask yourself "did I give him/her a good life?" Just give them plenty of love and care...no regrets.
