Hurricane Matthew....

I'm watching this closely as we had a three day weekend planned for the CT River. Hoping it tracks more East.
The current prediction model shows the storm veering to the east after it reaches the Carolinas; if that happens it shouldn't be a big issue for anybody north of there. Maybe a couple feet of surge in the Chesapeake if the storm pushes water in that direction.

Always learn a little something when you read posts on here... Are you making this recommendation because it limits the ability for fuel / sewage to slosh around and damage the tank?

Full fuel limits water intrusion into the fuel system and worst case if you have to get the boat moved after the storm one less worry.
pumpout limits environmental implications- due diligence. And in my case if long power outage at home I can use the boat..

Been following the storm quite a bit.

This morning one of the bloggers was talking about the storm circling back. This afternoon saw that some of the models are also indicating that may happen.

May let the folks on up the coast off the hook - but not good for FL area. Storm that drags up the coast - then circles around and comes right back.

Stay safe there,

Mark

Current forecast has Matthew coming ashore around Jupiter. I bet that inlet is off of the charts.

I am in Ft. Lauderdale up the new River and spent yesterday stripping off all the canvas and putting every line and bumper I own on her getting ready. Everyone on the dock was there doing the same. Fortunately my marina is protected quite a bit from the Davie Blvd bridge and an apartment building. Have a couple of guys on the dock who rode out Wilma in their sail boats so they were able to help me get prepared. Looks like it will hit just north of me so all I can do is wish for the best. The river was packed yesterday with mega yachts all heading up river for safe area to ride it out. Going to be interesting as this is my first hurricane

Looks like I'm just up the river from you, docked at shipyard on Marina Mile. Wednesday was pretty hectic getting secured and traffic coming in, now Thurs. morning and everything pretty quiet, just a few last minute preps. I'm facing north so it should be mostly on the nose, nothing in front of me, but there is an old 80-85' Burger rafted up off my port bow, my biggest worry is him breaking loose and getting blown down on me. All the big mega's have pro crews and have done a good job securing, it's the little sport, sport fish's, and absentee owner boats that are the worry, they just don't care or prep right.
I rode out Andrew on this same boat in this same marina back in 92, we clocked 122mph then, this won't be as bad. Also rode another hurricane in this exact same slip back around 2000, maybe 2001, that was on a 132' Amels.

Good luck guys. Where were they moving the big boys? I figured they would be safer down the new river since its seems well protected. I noticed that on Tuesday when I was heading to work downtown ftl.

There are about 12-15 mega's in same shipyard as me, up New River, been to busy to look anywhere else

It's been so, so nice to hear and see something other than Trump/Clinton on the news this week. It may be the ONLY good thing to come out of hurricane Matthew.

I hope you guys all make it through this unscathed. It sure looks like this is going to be a big mess.

We have put all the boats inside at the plant in Merritt Island and they will be good......me though, another story. I live two blocks from the beach in Cape Canaveral.....the point of impact. We have never had or seen anything with this strength and I have lived here since 1959.

Tom (ttmot) stay safe brother ! hope to see you on the backside.

140mph winds.....damn ! We are 12 hours from the eye and it is blowing like crazy already. My house is about 8 feet above sea level and they are calling for a 10-12 surge....damn again! They are advising the water will be shut off tonight...electricity will certainly fail by morning.

Might have to leave in the Laguna instead of the car.

Pray for my friends and my town please! Will post damage when the sun comes up tomorrow!

Capt. Rusty

Stay safe my friend.... Be smart about it. Gonna be a long night. Went through it with Sandy. Have to remember the definition of Hurricane, " The price you pay to live in Paradise!" Keep the faith.

So put the Laguna in the garage, get in the car and get the hell out of there! No time for being a stubborn cowboy Captain! Get!

Capt, just read your post to Deb. You are in our thoughts and prayers. Stay safe!
