It’s time to REOPEN the economy

Craig, I'm holding on...and I WILL survive this work stoppage.

I've never asked the government for a damn thing till this time but I'd like my business to be treated equally!

Governor Abbot (Texas) had his news conference today, the topic was about an aggregator would be working with Goldman Sachs to make sure at least 50 M of the PPP program would be designated for Texas Small business.

He will discuss later in the week his thoughts on reopening the texas economy.

At least he's moving forward. ;)

They just announced in So Cal that the State Closure will extend to 5/15. This in the midst of reports and evidence that Ca’s Covid numbers were a fraction of NY’s. Ca Government will use this as long as possible to ‘progress’ the agenda to all out socialist centric in the name of ‘extreme concern’ for everyone’s health.
Bunch of BS. I contend that if I went out on a mission to find the virus and infect myself I’d have a hard time unless I went to an ICU ward.
I see people driving down the road with their car windows up wearing masks. What a bunch of sheople!
Let’s get back to work and use reasonable distancing practices and sanitation protocols and we will all mostly be fine.
CD

Here in Ashland Ky we have had two cv 19 people admitted to the hospital. One doctor 70 yr old already released and a 81 man that passed away today. The other handful of people are quarantined at home.
It is time to open it up with common sense.

We rode our bikes on Sunday to a bagel shop in a local strip mall. Standing on the sidewalk eating our bagels we laughed at all the noodnicks driving through in cars by themselves with masks. One dude even had a mask and goggles by himself.

The trouble with opening areas with little or no cases you will get people coming from areas still shut down.

Maybe. Maybe not.

Until this country gains herd immunity, there will still be chances of infections. But so far statistics still show those in danger have underlying medical problems or elderly.

We can put the healthy back to work.

While here in BC we’re faring much better than much of the rest of North America despite having the 4th densest populated city, a 42 yo associate of mine and his family did manage to contract it. His wife is 41. While he and his two young kids got through it with relatively mild symptoms, she nearly died. No known pre-existing conditions..it just hit her really hard for no understood reasons. She was touch and go in a medically induced coma for nearly a week. So we really don’t know how or why certain people get affected as bad as they do. I don’t blame people for being careful.

Also maybe they live with elderly relatives. My mother-in-law lives with me, so I’m very cautious and overly careful. I don’t see the harm in that.

The data is beginning to emerge that the virus is older than conventionally thought, and the west coast has herd immunity already built up. A report from Stanford is looking into this and a report from Chicago found that multiple tests found 30-50% had antibodies, indicative of already having the virus.

The point of wearing a mask is to prevent person to person infection. If you were in a car with you MIL then I understand wearing a mask. If you are driving around in a car with the the windows up wearing a mask you are not helping anyone.

Do you have the Chicago link. I live here and haven’t read that yet.

That's interesting. I'd like to hear more about that study as well

No maybes about it this past weekend saw people from the cities headed to the cottages and stopping at our local grocery store. Supplies are in short supply without those fools not staying home.

Yeah the ferries were packed and the island communities flooded with tourists here. Most of those communities have large elderly populations and limited medical facilities.

So how long do you suppose everything should be shut down? Better yet, how much more economic turmoil needs to be created?

Our governor Gretchen saved the day with an executive order today to buy bar and restaurants liquor inventory back

The order empowers the MLCC to use its revolving fund to buy spirits remaining in inventory from bars and restaurants that purchased the spirits prior to March 16, 2020 for their full purchase price. Liquor licensees approved for the program have until 90 days after the state’s emergency and disasters declarations are lifted to re-purchase the spirits from the MLCC.

“Michigan’s 8,500 on-premises liquor licensees continue to make unprecedented sacrifices to help slow the spread of COVID-19 across our state,” Governor Whitmer said. “This buy-back program will help our bars and restaurants critical to Michigan’s economy weather the storm through this challenging time in our history.”
