I need to add a few thru hull drain fittings, but can't find the correct color. I don't know the brand, but they are a off white color. I can only find White, black or chrome. I need a few 1" fittings. If you know where I can find one please let me know.

When you say 1" is that hole size, hose barb size, pipe thread size ???? Straight, 90 deg, length ??? lot of variables and not much info.

We just replaced all the through hulls on our boat and painted them with Awlgrip to match the hull prior to their installation.

Can you use 1-1/8" (hose size), like from your bilge pump thru-hull/drain? Maybe use a 1" to 1-1/8" barb adapter? I saw that there are plenty of those in stock at Sea Ray that your local dealer can get for you. I don't know if other boats would maybe use a 1", but you could try looking through some various parts manuals for other boats.

Rusty, do you happen to know if Sea Ray had contracted Det-Mar to make them in a special color? Or does Det-Mar's "off-the-shelf" ones actually come in that slightly, off-white color to start with? MNM, worst case... buy one and see how it looks. I'm sure they're not expensive.

The barb I needed was 1" barb, straight thru. I went to my local West Marine and found a brand called Forespar. The part was 253 Series Marelon. The color was a slight off white compared to all the other plastic white ones. It looks like it will match pretty well. I ordered a few from Defender, so well see what happens.

The 340DA is one of Sea Rays better and most popular models. What do you want to add "a few thru hulls" for that Sea Ray, who employes naval architects, all sorts of engineers, and professional boat builders, had not thought of in all the years they made the 340?

Kinda violates one of the cardinal rules of boating……."Don't put unnecessary holes in a perfectly good boat"

Forespar/Marelon is EXCELLENT stuff. It's head and shoulders above normal plastic. In fact, it's actually approved for below the waterline use (not even SS is approved for that).

Do you know what a Gray water system is??? Well I do, and found out real quick the first time out this season. All of the drains go into to ****ter tank! Some searays were built this way because on a lake you can't dump any water over the side. Searay made a closed system. There is only 1 emergency overflow that comes out the side for the shower. The galley sink, head sink, outdoor sink all need thru hulls. In addition to the shower sump. Do you think I want to spend the money and drill some holes in my boat..I just got tired of pumping out my holding tank every 4-7 days.

Yea I read about them. Pretty good stuff

I understand. I suspect if your boat was initially ordered for a no-discharge area which could explain running everything into the holding tank. All the gray water on my boat runs into the shower sump which is pumped directly overboard. Only the heads run into the 2 holding tanks.

As you are doing your planning, you might consider using the shower sump for your gray water to save the expense of adding a thru hull for each sink. That will turn each sink into a way to flush freshwater thru the sump.

I have found a Camco product :

that is called "grey water odor control" but it contains a biodegradable detergent as well as a deodorizer that keeps sludge from forming in the sump and gumming up the float switch. You add about a cap full to each sink and the shower and it works wonders in preventing sump emergencies. I check the sump regularly but I haven't had to take the lid off and clean it since I found the Camco grey water treatment.

Yup , Thought of that already. Half way through the season I switched around the shower sump. Emergency goes into the holding tank and holding tank hose goes overboard. Now both cabin shinks and the shower go into the box and get pumped over. I just don't want to rely on the shower sump every time I use a sink. The pump is working a heck of a lot more than it should. Not to mention more stuff to go wrong. I pulled the frig out and it is very easy to add 2 thru hulls there next to the emergency one. Also in the rear where the holding tank hose and outdoor sink is, its very easy to take off the tank and go right out.

Yup

Thanks Frank! I may order some of that for some Thera in my club that constantly have smelly sumps! I can use it as well to reduce the frequency we clean our main sump (we have 2 with a cross over in case one fails).

I bet we only built a very few 340 with the grey water system..can you provide a HIN (PM if needed) for this boat. I can review the build order and provide you with engineering prints that may assist in thru-hull placements. I do know on our yachts when grey water is requested, we install a complete separate tank so as not to allow grey water to mix with black (waste) water. This method did not reduce the capacity for grey or waste....is both grey and waste going into the same tank on your boat?

I can offer insight to your boat if you think it will help....such as good place to new thru hull and hull construction of certain locations on the bottom or sides.

here to help, just let me know

Disregard - I skimmed over the yacht part.

mnm99,
Have you considered using stainless and upgrading the rest of them? I did it last year and it was not as bad of a job as you might think. The plastic thru hulls deteriorate with age. I'm sure you know what could happen if one of them fails.

Picker up the fittings and installed. They matched perfect! Thru hull 2.jpgThru hull.jpgThru hull 3.jpgThu hull1.jpg
