Meridian?

I never owned one, but I heard nothing rusted better (and faster) than a Chevy Vega...

1st car I bought was a used Vega, drove it home from the dealership and it died in my driveway, the dealer sent a tow truck and gave me my $$ back.

+1 Frank. Another reason why I admire folks like you. Had one of my daughters not wrecked my perfectly good '92 C1500 Silverado, I would still be driving it.

I used to have the mindset that I needed a new car every 3 years and leased them to ensure I got it at that interval. Keeping up with the neighbors just stops being important - now I realize how nice it is to have cars which are paid for. My Excursion is 7 years old and looks almost brand new, the Explorer is 10 years old and appears new with only 31k miles, the 74 Bronco - well it's 36 years old and is restored so that isn't going anywhere anytime soon. Why get a new vehicle every 3-4 years just because? I've got other places to spend my money on - like the boat, vacations and my business. It's really nice to have things paid for and money in the bank.

Every car I've owned, since college, was purchased used, (1+ yo) old and driven to 100K miles, +/- 10K miles. On average, I'll keep a car for 7-9 years. The only thing I ever bought brand spankin' new was my last boat. I prefer to let the other guy take the brunt of the depreciation!

It has gotten some Americans in trouble. People who buy houses, cars, boats, you name it, and who can afford to pay for them provide jobs and raise the standard of living for working Americans.

You could buy a boat with diesels and a bridge on it if you stopped wasting money on cars.

Pretty amazing story. I had virtually the same experience with a brand new 1973 Vega. The dealer was a neighbor and drove by my house. I was in the driveway with the hood up on a car with 20 miles on it. He stopped and asked how I liked the car. Towed it that day, tried many times to fix it but never gave me my money back. About he time the electrical problem was fixed, the top of the left fender showed the tell tale signs of rust. Was an oil burner to boot. Those were the days.........

I've never seen black TT's...but since we're all friends here I'll admit I've fantasized....

Everyone's got a hobby (or two or more, depending on the depth of their wallet), so I've got nothing against someone that likes a new car every year.

Some people look at their cars as an extension of their personality...for me, they're just a way to get from point "A" to "B", though I still have my old "Z" car that I like to beat on occasionally.

I've always enjoyed sporty cars as well as boats. With cars I take styling and high performance over function. TTs are Audi's answer to Boxters and small BMW and Mercedes sports cars. However, I'm tall and don't fit in most sports cars because of the low roof line and no leg room. The TT is one of the few cars that is comfortable for a tall person to drive on a long road trip without feeling fatigued. When it comes to boats, it's all about function. I want good seakeeping and comfortable living and entertaining space for 4-5 weeks at a time.

It would have cost them more to fix it, I think it was 10 years old when I bought it, 1980?, that's why they gave my money back, I only drove it 2-3 miles before it dead.
