Here's a picture of the interior. Does anyone know how the filler cushion works? Does the one from the forward sofa become the filler cushion?
Take a look in the mid cabin..... mine was tucked up against the wall ..... hidden in plan sight. It's covered by the same material as the couch.
The owner said he has the filler cushion at home. Found a pair of 3 blade SS props under the floor, and the boat has 4 blade aluminium ones on it now. Thinking someone was trying to squeeze as much as possible out of the 4.3’s Survey is decent and negotiations have started. I will post when deal is done. After that we wait for the cold weather to leave.
Did you figure out how that couch pulls out? You will have to move your blue tool box. Grab the crinkly cushion material that borders the outer edge of the couch and pull. That area separates from the flat cushions and extends out about 6 inches. The filler cushion is long and skinny and fills in between the crinkly outer edge and the flat cushions. It's about 6" x 6" x 5 feet long...roughly.
And YES, the newer hull design is wonderful! No more side-to-side lean and you almost don't even need trim tabs. First time I rode on a 1997.5 and newer 290 I was sold!
I just noticed someone installed a door under the small seat to gain access to that storage space. Very nice.
Closing the deal tomorrow. 1998 with twin 4.3, 965 hrs. Windlass, heat and a/c, new gps, clean survey and good compression test. Cockpit vinyl is very nice. Needs Bimini tops done and I plan to service the outdrives with new impellers and bellows in the spring. Here are some obligatory pics.
congrats, it’s a wonderful boat. Great Lakes boat top has all the tops for it if you want to go that route. I think it was like 3300 or so for the entire camper enclosure in black.
Congrats ted and welcome aboard. This is a great place to get help and advice. I got my 98 290 3 years ago and was able to get through every obstacle that was thrown my way. Have been a long time sea ray guy but never owned one this big or a boat with a water heater, air conditioner and a generator. Listen to the people on this site and anything can be figured out of fixed without kissing the ring of the boat mechanic or paying homage to the boat gods
So in the next week or so I am going to remove my outdrives. I have the twin 4.3 with Alpha drives. I haven't seen the boat out of the water yet, but from the pics on the survey (correct me if I'm wrong), it appears the port side has a LH prop and the starboard has the RH prop. Does this mean the port side has counter rotation? I have read that when Alphas are removed, regular rotating drives are placed in forward gear and the counter rotating drives need to be in reverse.
You are correct. Port has CCW rotation. Be sure throttle is in reverse for removal. Stbd is standard rotation. Be sure throttle is in forward for removal. good luck.
yep, not to the top (4800) but full fuel, full water, 1/4 waste, 2 adults and a child and gear - 4600RPM WOT. That was with no tabs, no wind/flat sea, and trimmed about 1/4 the way up.
By the way if anyone wants those props let me know, I still have them and aside from a little dried algae they’re perfect. As long as shipping to your location isn’t crazy I’d sell them for $150 shipped (for both) I think they were like 120 each or so. you might need hubs, I’d have to check but I think I gave the hubs to the new owner
sounds good. I’ll pull them out of the shed tomorrow and grab a couple pics and see if they have hubs. I’ll PM you
Happy Thanksgiving to all! Any suggestions for propane grill & mount? Hoping to pay around $500 max. I’d like to mount it on the rail above the transom locker. Thanks!
I had the magma with pedestal mount and will be doing the same on our new boat. I thought about that rail as well but it was going to be too close to the backrest on the back bench seat
Thanks Ryan. I thought about pedestal mount too. I think I even saw a pic of yours at one point. We just had the new SeaDek installed, and don’t really want to put the hole in the swim platform. I remember seeing a pic of some type of table, that the grill could sit on. It looked nice and mounted to that rail, and was supported against the transom. I think it was wood, and someone had purchasing info, but I can’t find it now.
