So I started my engines this morning for the 1st time this season and how sweet it was to here them purring again...... I needed to start them because I was installing the Wolverine engine heaters. The directions state the engine should be warm. This project required adding a separate circuit with and outlet in front of each engine.
Another few weeks and the shrink wrap will be coming off..... :smt038 Bring on summer 2012!!!!

Nice, I am so jelous... I'm ready to be back in the water soon.

Steve,
Glad to hear it went well!! We will be out and about before you know it!!

I don't call it months anymore - I'm counting weeks....

Then I break it down to days, and figure out how much of the winter has already passed, on a percentage basis. The I try to figure out how much I could push up the splash date, to trim the percentage down even more. I have to get back to work...

Good to hear it went well, Steve. See you guys on the water soon!

Im counting 3-4 weeks Ill be splashing !!! our docks are being redone at the marina, hope there done by then :)

Cmon Steve!! Off with the wrap, it's March! Are you winterizing again?

Your absolutely right Russ but I kinda grown fond of looking out into the backyard and seeing the "Pillsbury dough boat"

Lol, I bet - hey St Pattys day we will be back in PJ !

You were probably to drunk to remember but you did invite me as one of the crew! No problem though, if theres not enough room, I'm in Therapy now and I think I'll be fiine....... It was the Therapist's idea to start up the QSMs....and it worked... I feel so mush better.....

Hey Brian,

The main reason is to prevent cold starts.. I keep the boat in the water year round and I like to run the engines at least once a week until approx. the 1st or 2nd week of December and then start them at the beginning of March. The added benefit is they will keep the engine room warm.

Steve, that's interesting. I thought the QSM-11's were smoke free on all starts. Below what temperature do you start to see smoking at start up?

Me drunk?! Ha! I remember and there is plenty of room as long as you spoon. I checked and no one has a problem spooning with you so increase our bond insurance and get on board!!

I wouldn't say smoke free. Definitely a lot less smoke than other manufacturers that I've seen. I' m not sure at what temperature I see a little more smoke but I do notice a difference in the colder weather. From what I read, the warmer oil will flow and lubricate the moving parts better at start up. Again, in keeping the engines warm, I don't have to be concerned about the cold nights before I winterize. Previously if they were calling for a cold night, I would start the engines and warm them up just for peace of mind.I won't have to do this anymore. This morning outside temp is 34 deg., engine room temp is 60 deg.
