Is anyone familiar with residence reversal issues on 8.1 Mercruisers? Not even sure I have the term correct.

I don't know but, Welcome to CSR. :smt001

What year is your 340?

????????????????????????????????????????????????????????

To correct the residence reversal on your 8.1's on the 340 you simply have to tweak the whatchamacallit and turn the impellar clockwise by removing the belt and turning the pulley and turning clockwise. If that doesn't work call immagration and talk to them about reversing the resident status.

Seems the more knowledgable don't recongize "residence reversal issues". Suggest you describe what you think it is.

I for one have 6.2s in my 340 & damn glad...sure don't want to encounter any residence reversal issues on a dark lonely night.

OK I think in this case as happens from time to time, the fridge should stay off.......no cold beer should be available for you for safety reasons.

No, you guys got it all wrong--the johnson rod is backwards. Reverse it and adjust the fribacite throwout yoke arm and it will run fine

I never heard of residence reversal. But I suppose it could be when northerners move to Florida for their retirement, find that they don't like it, and reverse residences to go back north.

But what I think you actually mean is resonance reversal. Resonance not residence.

There's no such thing.
Best regards,
Frank

Hmmm! I thought Resdience Reversal was what Rahm Emmanuel is doing in the Chicago Mayorial Election? But I have 6.2L engines so what do I know!

Your props are on the wrong the shaft. Just switch your props and everything should be fine.

Is he referring to the waaah, waaah sound the engines make when they are not in sinc? Sinc the engines. If it's bad, tune the props, check the true-ness of the shafts, and get the engines aligned.

"There is also a possibility that the design of the elbow allows ingestion of water from a running engine through a condition called resonance reversion. The resonance is caused by vibration of the engine itself and can cause the water to flow backwards due to suction of cylinders on the downward stroke. This can cause a misting of water in the cylinders, which leads to rust and damage. If enough water is ingested, then the cylinder will be prevented from traveling to the top of its stroke. Since water does not compress, it will break the engine. This is called hyrolock."

Wow! Only 25 posts to get an actual explanation!! I think you guys effectively drove off that new (Ex) member!! How many days 'till spring??:smt021
