He did. And he can do it for the rest of us, too....see that there website in his siggy? Great online photo gallery of both covers and flooring. Once I've got my mechanicals and genny squared away, he'll be on my contact list to see about poles and canvas.

When we bought our 370DA it had the tiny bimini off the rear of the arch - pretty much worthless for shade, which everyone wanted. I also didn't remotely like the mass of tubes most boats have for the camper canvas - it's in the way and quite frankly I think detracts from the aesthetics of the boat.

I did something similar another 370 forum member did and have my aft bimini extended (one solid piece) almost all the way to the back, following the lines of the boat. This set-up has two vertical posts on each side, with the aft post being able to fold up and lock in place out of sight within the bimini structure if it's not super windy.

Works fantastic, looks great, and provides shade to almost all of the deck area when the sun's at it's peak. Really changed things in a positive manner for us. Still plenty of places for sun, but having the majority of the deck area shaded as made it much more comfortable and we use the boat more often for this reason.

Do you have any pictures of the setup you used for this?

Not the best picture, but you can see what was done. I couldn't stand all the "Y" and "V" braces obstructing the view. Used heavier gauge aluminum, and it worked fantastic and accomplished the goal. Unless it was very windy, each of the aftmost rear poles folded up and locked inside the main frame up top - providing an unobstructed view.

Thank you. Just trying to figure out the best way to shade the family. Just bought my first sea ray. It has the aft enclosure but not the camper top so I'm wanting to extend the Bimini. The pictures help. Much appreciated

No problem....did the same on my 310 as well, worked well too - less distance from arch to back. Best wishes...

We ordered BlackSticks and had our local canvas shop make us a aft shade to match the rest of the canvas. It uses the existing zipper that’s used for the aft curtain. What’s nice about the blacksticks is that they collapse in half for stowage and they’re also carbon fiber. This allows the poles to bend a little when putting up. Keeps tension on the shade and prevents the poles from falling out while under way.

I see you are just using the center section of the aft zipper... is that enough to give you shade sitting aft starboard ?
I tried to google Blacksticks and didn't find anything ...can you post a link?

They sell their own aft shade too but I wanted to use the boats zipper and have a uniform look to the rest of the boat

Not sure exactly what you’re asking.

It’s easily one of the top upgrades I did last year. The aft seating is actually useful during that hot mid day sun. At the dock the sun starts peaking below it about 6:30/7. Sometimes we can just lower one corner and it’ll block the sun a bit longer but by then it’s cooling off.

Makes the boat much more user friendly.

Is the canvas wide enough?... the center section of the zipper ….I am guessing is maybe 6'.... so the starboard U shape part of the seating you could look up and see sun

Oh got it.

So it would just depend on where the Sun is. Probably 6' wide I'd say. Approx the inside of the gunwale to the back of the aft seating. Like I said the mid day Sun is obviously when you need it most. It lets you get out of the Sun for a few minutes while still being able to socialize, etc

We have been working on removable fly shades for some of the Sundancers. While I teased these a couple times over the winter I was hoping to have them in production this spring but this has been slowed down due to the virus. So this is somewhat of soft announcement.

Below is our mockup up for the 340SDA. The idea is to have a Fly Shade that would zipper to the factory sunshade with removable poles for quick up and down and minimize storage.

340SDA-Shade-02.jpg 340SDA-Shade-03.jpg

We are manufacturing our own extension poles and hardware for this and on the 340SDA the poles store down to about 4ft. The pic below only shows partial webbing from our first prototype. In the final it will be full reinforced side to side and front to back.

Our plans included a little more detail where possible to make is seem like a regular cover. Below is the mockup of the finished canvas. Note the attachment is integral with facings and tails for rain and other attachments. Our plans included optional drop curtains in this configuration to block sun from the side and rear.

Additionally with the collapsible poles they can also be tilted to provided additional pitch for rain coverage only.

Our plans included having this for the 340SDA and 320DA this spring and the new 310DA by summer. Hopefully we will be able to get past this shutdown and back on schedule with this soon.

This looks great. Tell me more about the poles? And could this be adapted for a different boat? What material will the shade be made from?

The poles are Stainless Steel and the hardware is all commercially available marine components. We have just cut, drill, tapped holes and assembled. The pole can be used in almost any situation. Since we were looking at the storage aspect we stayed with some standard sizes that we had to build out to seat better in rod holders. However, for much large shades (much bigger than these) we have access to larger carbon fiber poles (in different colors) that fit in the rod holders.

As far as the shade goes we are going to be using Sunbrella canvas so that we can color match to most existing Sea Ray canvas tops. We are targeting the models produced by Great Lakes since these are intended to be a simple add on. The most complex part would be adding rod holders if needed.

The actual shade could be adapted for almost any boat but would require it to be templated and mockup produced to fit the existing mounting type or point (ie zipper, track, etc.)

As I mentioned, I teased these over the winter on social media and every time we did we received a lot of interest. I was really hoping to have a full canvas model produced for the 320DA/340SDA by now but have been limited by the shutdown.

We have an el-cheapo solution similar to Quint4. Ours is a surplus piece of white dacron sailcloth our canvas guy had. It zips into the aft sunshade/bimini. The poles holding up our cockpit cover do double duty holding up the sailcloth. The poles are reversible, with a snap on one end, and a "knob" on the other. The knob goes through grommet holes at the corners of the sailcloth, and then into rod holders. It's good for stationary and low speed use.

Just got these (SunFly Poles) from Canvas Designers... Solid as can be and will definately not fly out of the rod holders. All the mega yachts and big sport fish around here are using these. I opted for the "non retractable" since I plan to put them up at the dock and leave them up. Should have the canvas shade made later this week. Will post photos when finished.
