I just got an email from a friend. The broker came to pickup my 270 Amberjack today.

This really is bittersweet. I bought her new, and it was the only boat either of my kids have known. We had some fantastic times on her over nearly 13 years, whether just hanging on the hook or taking trips around Long Island Sound. She's been the perfect boat for us for a long time.

The photo below is her leaving my dock for the last time.

When I saw this picture my heart hurt a bit, but I know we've out grown her for what we want to do now. My consolation is that another family will love her.

Unfortunately I'm no longer going to be a Sea Ray owner. I would have loved to move up to a larger model but it just didn't offer what I wanted. After a very long process of finding one, I'm taking delivery of a new Back Cove 34 next week. It's a boat I've kind of obsessed over for a number of years. While I'm no longer a Sea Ray owner, I still have great fondness for the brand.

Congrats on the new boat! Keep contributing to CSR. It’s the people who make this such a great place.

Let’s see some pics of the back cove!

Congrats! and yes lets see some pics. I need to know what to look for the next time we are in PJ.

Is the Back Cove the one with twin 300 Yamis

Thanks!

I don't have any of my own pics yet, but have a few from the dealer. I'm going to have the bottom paint color changed from teal to red. I'm also in the process of having an electronics suite installed. Some of the angles are weird from the fisheye lens that was used.

CSR has been such a great place, I think you get something no matter what kind of boat you have.

Pretty boat - obviously well crafted. Saw one the other day on a trailer being delivered - it had twin outboards on it.

That's the new Back Cove 34O - O for Outboard. There is also an option for 350 hp Suzukis. I get the appeal of the outboards and that model is selling really well. I've been on it and it's very nice but doesn't fit my needs.

All other Back Coves are driven by a single diesel inboard. In my case, a Cummins QSB 6.7 480. Top speed is 29 kn (34 mph), cruise is 25 kn (28 mph).

Wow gorgeous boat. I like that layout. Looks like a ton of room in the cockpit and a nice size area in the stern to fish or to sit when docked. Good luck and congrats

Thanks!

The biggest issue you are gong to have with that Back Cove 34 is the mess your boating guests will make as they drool with envy.

Seriously, congratulations. Thats one beautiful vessel. I hope the next dozen or so years are also filled with great memories. Hopefully, at some point, you will get a little “first mate” grandson like I was blessed with. When you do, you get to start the list of “firsts” all over again.

Good job on picking that Back Cove. I've heard nothing but good comments about them. Once it gets to your dock we'll need to see some pics.

That's a good looking crew! I've got some time before I get more "mates" - my oldest just turned 13. We wanted to go bigger so he and his sister don't have to keep sharing a v-berth. And so we can have more of their friends over on the boat.

Thanks! I've not heard anything bad about them either. I'll add my own pics when I get them.

In some ways I tried to find anything other than a Back Cove. But after years and years of looking it was was the only kind of boat that met my narrow set of requirements: Single level (no bridge), 3 places to sleep, single engine, and cruise at 26 mph or better. My fixation on a single engine was for long-term minimization of both maintenance and operational (fuel) costs. If you can't afford the fuel to travel, you just stay at the dock.
