As many of you might remember I bought a platform back in early November from an outfit in Spokane,Wa that claimed to make a quality, factory look platform. Well, it had too many flaws to name and he refused to do ANYTHING about it and left me high and dry so I was forced to take him to small claims court. He played the courts and I ended up having to file twice, thus extending the court date out farther.
It turned out that this wasn't his first time to small claims court.
While I was waiting I decided that no matter the outcome I wasn't going to install his platform on my boat as he wouldn't be warranting it.
I called and talked to Art at Swimplatforms.com and what a professional and great guy to deal with, it was such a breath of fresh air from what I was dealing with from the other place.
So around the first of January I ordered another one, wow, what a difference in quality. The two platforms are in completely different classes, the one from Spokane looked like someone built in in thier back yard, whereas the Swimplatforms.com was solid quality and looks great!
The court date was March 1st and I ended up with a partial judgement of $1236.54, that was the cost to have it repaired at my local fiberglass shop.
It was the second best outcome that I could have got so I was happy enough.
I sold it on Craigslist for $500.00 and I kept the $475.00 ramp that it came with. I was straight up with the guy I sold it to, I told him I didn't like it and would not put it on my boat. He got a great deal and was happy so we both won.
Today was the end of the 30 days the guy had to pay the judgement and I got the check in the mail.
He left off the 54 cents at the end of the judgement as an act of defiance and put FU in the memo line, that just made my day. lol
I just know he hated making that check out, but he sure didn't mind screwing me over.
So now I can put it behind me and I'm getting ready to put the boat in the water for the season.

Greg,

glad you got some satisfaction. Maybe it wasn't your #1 choice, but half the dough is good!

The new platform looks great !

Thanks Shaun and Mark. I got all but $300.00 of my original money back with the sale of the crappy one, and I have a nice 12' folding ramp, so I'm good with that.
The biggest thing is I wanted to warn people that there is not a substitute for Swimplatforms.com, at least not in Spokane,Wa.
If you know what I mean.

Looks fantastic. Enjoy!

That looks really good, it amazes how many ties someone would need to go to court before they actually offer service.

Wyrman,

Wow! That platform looks awesome! You definitely got the right one in the end. I'm glad that it worked out ok for you financially in the end and that the courts found your case that compelling.

I chuckled out loud when I read what he wrote in the memo line. You know just how much it burned him to make good on his poor quality. It's like when someone exhibits road rage & you just smile and wave to them knowing that irks them more than firing back letting them know they pissed you off!
Good for you and good post! Thanks for sharing.

Looks great, We love our swimplatform.com platform and use it constantly while on the water. Why didn't you go with them in the first place? Just curious?

"looked like someone built in in thier back yard" - Maybe he did, Did you check the place out? :)

I looked at the two companies for a few months and when I finally decided to go with the Spokane one it was mainly because I could go pick it up, he talked a good talk also.
The Swimplatform matches the boat beautifully.

Has anyone been told by their dealer that installing from swimplatforms.com voids their hull warranty?

You know, this might be an age thing, or rather the age in which I grew up financially thing, but anyone who tries to got over on me financially, best get up early. I would take the Spokane guy back to court for the 54¢. Who cares about the money, but contempt citation would make him pay dearly for being a smart$$ and you'd get a lot more than 54¢ worth of satisfaction out of it.

Greg, that one looks great on the stern of your boat.

Now, by way of a lesson on what a small world we live in....today our yacht club had a boater swap meet. It was an informal thing with us just providing the place where sellers and buyers could meet to make their own transactions. It was advertised to start at 11:00 and we had many buyers and sellers arriving at 10:00. I sold about $125 worth of stuff I'd cleaned out of the garage so I was happy.

But back to the small world thingie....a guy showed up with a pickup load of stuff, the largest piece of which was a burgundy and white swim platform with a couple of obvious alterations to it. He was trying to sell it and said it didn't fit his boat. I felt like I'd seen it before but it didn't click where I'd seen it until I read your thread. BINGO!

The rain started pouring down about 11:20 so everyone quickly packed up and headed for home. Including the guy with the unsold swim platform, which I helped him load on the truck. Small world indeed.

Frank, I left the claim open and it's incurring interest, so hopefully someday it'll bite him and he'll need me to close it after he pays the rest with interest.
Mike, I wanted to go to that swap meet but we had other plans during that time so I missed it. I hate hearing that it didn't fit his boat, he had all the measurements and had a fiberglass shop that was going to install it. I wish it would have worked out for him.
I sure am a lot happier with the Swimplatforms.com one though, it's built so much nicer.

I had not considered that an open judgment against him will hit his credit report and make it difficult for him to borrow anything or even to get a credit card..........see you are already enjoying the 54¢.

Just opened the crate for my swim platform. Can't wait to install it next weekend .does anyone have any tips for me ?

Plus I got a big ol laugh for a good day looking at the fu on the memo.
Sal, I just took my time, measured several times and checked several times before drilling any holes.
I installed mine by myself except when it came time to tighten the bolts.
Don't hesitate to call them if you have questions, they're very friendly and helpful.

Dont have any advise, but I was wondering if you got the one that mounts on top, or the one that mounts underneath the existing?

That is an interesting question. On one hand you have the step to deal with or, on the other, the toe stubber at the transom door. Also the over the top model will be very high from the water if you will swim from it often, but would let you use deck chairs to sit back there. Looks like one of those can't have it all questions...

That question deserves its own thread in the general section as there would be a lot of good thoughts from the club.

I went with the sit on top version. I like the no step idea. I will post some pics of the final install .
