The Official 450 Express Bridge Owners Club

I had to run out to the boat last night to get ready for the haul out this Friday. Here is the paint I used on the frames.

Perfect...thx for sharing.

Did you go all they way down to the metal or just sand the areas with issues and scuff the existing paint?

The areas with the bubbling I took down to the metal. Everywhere else was just a light scuff. :)

Well, have been watching and this popped up on FB marketplace yesterday in Panama City, FL (90 mins from me). Couldn't believe it, $1,250 and guy sold it for $700 cash.

Sionyx Autoroa Pro, Color NVG and Illuminator.
No more radar/map only at night!

Planning on putting it on the hand rail leading from the bridge to the bow.

The haul out is complete. When we last had her out of the water for the survey in July of 2020, I actually thought the hull paint looked worse than it did today. The yard we are using has the old school tracks instead of a sling. The crew was pretty quick getting her out and in her new spot. Hopefully the work is completed in a week.

I expect to find the same thing with my paint. I have a good diver and I think my previous owner had mediocre guy. As I am sure you are, I am still having the bottom done.

My diver said it was ready back in November. Like you, I think the prior owner didn’t do a lot of maintenance like a monthly visit to scrub the bottom. When it was hauled out for the survey there was a lot of moss on the hull when the crew pressure washed it. Today there was no growth at all. :)
One report from the yard supervisor already. My leak at the trim tab was due to a missing screw. o_O

I took a trip down to the yard to see what the bottom looked like after they pressure washed and to get a closer look. Here is the missing screw on the trim tab and the rest of the boat. It is ready for some love and attention. :)

I just wanted to throw this post out there because...well....the reply count was 666 when I strolled through "by new" this morning. I don't want you 450 guys to be cursed for any longer than necessary...

Pretty cool haul out system. That being said, I hope she doesn't sit like that too long with her keel unsupported. Also it looks like your prop nuts are not installed correctly.

I zoomed in on the picture. Please let me know if this is incorrect.

VALVE ADJUSTMENT

Well, finally, I finished my last annual maintenance task today.

Some interesting findings on my valves.
Port Engine - 1396.1 hours
Starboard - 301.1 hours

All valves on the Starboard were tight. The Port had 2 tight and 8 loose. Makes me think the Port got its 600 hour and not 1200 hour. Pretty sure the Starboard needed an initial adjust after it was installed.

Nothing outrageous, but did need some tweaks. Hopefully, that doesn't need to happen again for 600 hours.

Also, interesting to look at a thousand hours difference between valve trains (yes, worked all that corrosion due to my shaft seal spraying earlier this year).

I believe the small nut should go on first. @ttmott ?
Yes half nut always goes on first. The reason is to distribute the stress on the threads further to the end of the prop-shaft; in the acreage of the threaded length. So, the half nut gets torqued then the full nut goes on and gets torqued to the same value. This moves the stresses away from the transition between the threads and tapered section of the shaft to reduce the chance of shaft failure there.

I got the call from the shipyard, the boat is ready to go. I had them replace the gold boot stripe with a black one. It turns out the suspect trim tab had a bad actuator that needed to be replaced. I also got lazy and had them wire up the underwater lights for me. Looking forward to picking it up tomorrow!

Man, that was fast!

Rudder Packing

Has anyone repacked their rudders?

My starboard rudder leaks when it is cold. Wondering if I should just have it done by the yard.

They said last Friday that it would be "about a week." They called yesterday and said it was done and I was shocked. I live an hour and half (with traffic) away from the yard and my work week schedule is pretty tight. There was no chance that I could have been there today. I ran though the list of items and they had missed the boot stripe. I was hoping that would push it out to this Friday, but their sub contractor had it done by 10 this morning!

I wonder if anyone else will share what you paid for bottom paint on your boat? I picked this shipyard based on several recommendations from friends at my yacht club. Parts on the paint etc came up to $1,379 and labor was $1,449. With California sales tax on the parts, my total was $2,970 and change. I could have saved a few bucks if I took it to Ensenada, but I didn't want to deal with that long of a trip this time of year.

My bottom is going to be more than that next month, $77 p/foot, but that is the high end paint (Bicop TF). Starts at $55 p/foot on the cheaper paint, but supply chain is keeping them from offering low or mid-range. Plus $100 for each stabilizer. Gonna be close to $4k..ughh.
