The official "Stray Current II" thread. '07 260DA

Well, today was spendy as hell!

I got the engine back in the boat with fresh manifold gaskets, dry joint gaskets, rear main seal, pan gasket, new thermostat housing gasket, new Mercruiser shift cable and bellows, and new mercruiser stainless trim hoses.

I’m gonna run it tomorrow to burp all the air pockets out of the cooling system and make sure everything is topped off and then I’m going to foam, wash the entire engine and bilge again to get all the oil out.

Friday I’ll be buttoning up the bottom paint on the transom after a little bit more sanding and fairing.

I placed the deposit on a brand new, 2.20:1 SeaCore Bravo 3 today. Between the condition of the paint and case, and the pile of shrapnel that fell out of mine, I said screw it.

The new drive should be here next Wednesday at the latest and I have another shop installing that so I have a full warranty. Hopefully Friday or Saturday it’s getting detailed and going back in the water.

The shop did point out some electrical issues which I need to look into repairing, but I’m definitely not paying someone for that!

Looks like I had a poor connection on one of my fuses. It didn’t pop the fuse but there’s definitely been some heat!

I’m going to look and see if I can find the new modular plug and pins and just trim that all back and replace it as is. Worst case scenario there will be four individual fuse holders there.

Would any of you happen to know the proper name for this clip that holds the gas cylinders on the ball joint for the storage compartment?

Now to go make peace with carrying a credit card balance for the first time in four years. I just made a years worth of payments for a new boat in one day.

Now we’re getting somewhere!

I still have a couple of odds, and ends to take care of. It was going to get detailed tomorrow and go in the water, but it looks like the weather is pushing me back another week.

Seems my leaks are all worked out! The last leak was the adapter for the remote filter. It was so shrunken and hardened I’m surprised it wasn’t flowing more. I replaced the lines too. Got all of the coolant drips from loose clamps sorted out!

I cannot wait until I buy a house where I can work on this myself and not depend on hackslam Florida contractors!

I have a few odds and ends, then detailing and relaunch Tuesday

If you need one of these clips I should have one from the cylinder I replaced. Send me PM with your address I would be happy to help you out.

Probably about 24 maritime units later, it’s back in the water with the fully functional generator and drive .

It was windy and choppy, and I had to get back to the ramp to pick up my truck and trailer and take them home to wash. So not much of a test run.

What was immediately obvious was the lack of several vibrations that must have snuck in and built up over time. With the condition of the drive internals I’m not overly surprised.

So right out of the gate my fuse holder for my underwater lights melts o_O

You can’t make this shit up, but at least it’s only an electrical problem :whew:

Back to the manufacturer it goes for warranty rebuild…

now I’m dead in the water again and can’t put break in hours on. Was hoping to haul and change the gear lube and trilux the drive this weekend.

I’d receive a fine if it sat there another 2 weeks straight. Hopefully I don’t get too much marine growth waiting for the return…

Where was it leaking from?

The weep hole, indicating internal seal failure. I wish I could post video. It was pouring out at 5 psi and I cruise at 21 psi

Pro tip: 1 inch schedule 40 PVC is the proper diameter to fit inside inch and a quarter ID hose. Although I have shown in the past that a butt plug works for a short term stopping of water from a hose, this will be safer with the clamp snugged down:D

On the bright side, little Satan seems to be holding all its fluids. We had a come to terms meeting. I explained that if it acts up again, I was going to turn it over to a couple crystal meth tweakers who would cut it apart for scrap.

Sorry I missed this, and thank you very much. I actually wound up needing to replace the hatch lifts in one of the toolboxes on my work truck. The replacement cylinders came with their own clips, so I was able to rob one off of the failed cylinder. For once timing worked out in my favor!

I guess I can’t bitch too much. Things do break but it went in the box and got dropped off at UPS on Wednesday at 6 o’clock and the rebuilt unit just hit my door.

Certainly says A LOT about the customer service from the company.

The offerings of blood and sweat have been made to the bilge gods. For now…

Hopefully a run tomorrow or the next day and wipe down will reveal no further water, coolant, or oil leakage. After that, I should be ready to haul next weekend to trilux the drive and change the break-in gear oil in the new drive unit.

My wife is jealous of all the attention she gets… :D

I would have just threatened to paint the whole damn thing pink if it acted up again.

Okay. I'm caught up on your thread now. I got nothing on you.

I just put a brand new pump like that on mine last year. I'll be sure to keep an eye on it.

I’ve owned more pink watercraft or watercraft with pink components than just about anyone

Mine started leaking at 70 hours. They didn’t give me any difficulty about warranty rebuild though

I had a Gen 1 version of that pump in mine for a long time. I replaced it with the Gen 2 and their pulley last year. I was just going to replace just the pulley since mine got a little rusty and was making too much belt dust but then I saw the "new and improved" pump and made an impulse purchase.

My oe pump bearing failed at 980 and Mercury is smoking crack the way their OEM parts are priced. This was a cheaper alternative but with really good reviews and what would seem is supposedly a better, more rebuild friendly design
