Hello every one, looking to buy a new tv this month. I'm looking at a 47 to 52 inch led, lcd tv, with 1080p and 240 hz. Which is the best tv for the money???? I was looking at the Vizio tvs and they seem to be the best buy for the money.....rob

Look at Panasonic. Real deals this weekend.

Panasonic doesnt make an LED in that size. I went with the Samsung 55" LED this past weekend. Opted to not go with a 3D tv at this point. Not sold on the every day usefullness for the money. Research whether a 240hz is going to be noticeable by your eyes. I don't know that they can be. But there is a substantial price increase for them. Also, going from 50-55" will jump in price.

After hours and hours of research and lots of time just staring at the ones on the wall I just kept coming back to the Samsung. I ruled out plasmas for our great room because its bright. Watching the OSU/UM game in full sun right now and this TV is BRIGHT! For $1500 i'm pleased.

LED is not even close to plasma in picture realism. if you like your tv looking like a jerky video game, then go LED. a set of blinds can take care of the bright room issues.

Don't plasma's only last a certain amount of time? I've heard that, but haven't really done any research. I know they put out a bit more heat.

I've stared at plasma time and time again and I firmly believe that the appreciable difference in smoothness with current model LCD/LED's is non existent. In fact, I WANTED to like the plasma because they are cheaper. That one factor was the biggest factor in my decision making because I watch a lot of sports. Bottom line, that school of thought with MY eyes was outdated. Who wants to sit in a dark room full of people on a beautiful saturday afternoon to watch a game. The brightness of the LED LCD gives it a much more vibrant appearance to my eyes. I cranked up the brightness on the plasmas at the store and they don't come close to the LED. If you have a dark theater room then maybe it's fine. But in a great room with a wall of windows no way. Looks like the screen is on half power.

I agree. We just installed four of these Vizio 55" LED TV's plus a bunch of other size LEDs in our restaurant. We did homerun HDMI cables to the HD Directv boxes (with some powered HDMI splitters as we have over 30 tv's) and the picture is absolutely PHENOMINAL!!! Here is the link to the 55" Vizios:

The price was right and the tv is excellent so far. You can also go online with these TV's as the remote has a built in keyboard. Good luck with the search!

They do put out more heat and the life cycle WAS about 10,000 hours. Newest versions are over 80,000 hours which is fine with me.

I have the Samsung 50" plasma and love the picture. It is in a corner nook of our family room which has windows on both sides of the TV. No problem with brightness in daylight. You can select economy mode and save more on power.

I too don't think LED's are at the same crispness as a plasma yet. But the LED's eat a lot less power. My plasma is on maybe 15-18 hours/day (retired and admiral has it on even when not watching it) and my electric bill is about $2-3 more per month I think... I don't consider that a big deal for the quality of the picture. All new flat screen look great with internet access as well. I have Netflix, blockbuster, youtube, pandora, etc available. Newer units have hulu and more.

When I was shopping two years ago, the top brands were Sony and Samsung. Samsung still makes their own plasma panels. All others are still from the same panel maker I believe... at least it was that way... so it won't matter what the brand name is with the exception of the extras that come with each unit...

Samsung is great because you can easily dial in the colors, tint, brightness, etc. There are websites dedicated to getting the best picture out of your Samsung plasma... other makers don't have that ability without a lot of effort and messing with the specs meant for access by professionals...

On the LCD/LED front: I can sort of understand going to 120hz (even multiple for both 30 hz and 24 hz signals); but I cannot fathom going a factor of two higher considering today's signal sources. Not like there are any 240hz (or even 120hz) blueray players (or sports casts) out there.

I just bought a 60" LG Plasma and it is great! I have windows on both sides of the room and it looks fine. Of course if the sun shines right at it or glare is right at it the picture is a bit tough but it is with the LED as well.

Ok so i have narrowed it down to the Sony or the Vizeo, but my last question is ....... is it worth it to pay the extra for the 240 hz or just stay with the 120hz?????? rob.

If you are a sports fanatic go with 240Hz
