Been boating for 40+ years. Born and raised on an island in the Chesapeake bay. My father built my first boat for my 14th Christmas. I like to create desktop applications as a hobby, but my real job is the chief engineer for a large local physical security integration firm.
 
Thought I posted in this forum, but reading through it, I guess not. Must have been the one about education. Anyways, I am a funeral director in sw Michigan. I spent 10 years as a firefighter and after moving quickly through the ranks, got tired of the political garbage and decided to change careers. Thinking law enforcement, a friend convinced me to come work at his funeral home to help him out. Ended up falling in love with the business, went to mortuary school and the rest is history!
As far as boating goes, grew up on boats with my dad. Spent a lot of time on lake mi, lake Erie and inland lakes. Finally got my own "bigger" boat in 2005, then my current boat in 2009. Love reading about all of your stories and histories. Thanks!!

My family had boats since before I was thought of. My dad raced hydroplanes and runabouts back in the 60's and 70's. Our family boat was a biesemeyer.
I ended up buying a 76 Caldwell 16' runabout with a 115 hp Mercury about 15 years ago,had it for several years and one windy nasty day I capsized it on the Snake River just above the Columbia River. I had three passengers and luckily the boat stayed afloat (upside down) and we all made it home.
As the sheriff was towing me back to the dock I said to myself that I would have a nicer boat before the next year, so I bought a 94 Bluewater 20' cuddy. That was a great boat and we had a lot of good times on it for 11 years but we found ourselves cruising out to a spot and lounging mostly so I talked the wife into getting a bigger boat. I told her we would cruise the San Juans and she was sold.
I worked a lot of overtime and we didn't take any trips ( we like to travel to tropical destinations) for a year and we finally had the cash and bought our 06 Sea Ray 260.
I have been a union electrician since 1985 and landed a maintenance job at a nuclear site 4 1/2 years ago that hopefully will take me through to retirement.
 
Retired at 52 from Local 85(Steamfitters) Saginaw, Mi. Grew up on budd lake in my home town. Heels are permanetly numb from barefooting as a teen. DAN
 
Retired USCG Officer, and civilian Engineer. 20 years in uniform, 14 years as civilian USCG Engineer working in Boating Safety. First 7 years as enlisted mostly on big cutters, after commissioning spent most of my time in Boating Safety. I was a boating accident investigator, director of the USCG Auxiliary, and a compliance officer enforcing safety standards for boat manufacturers. Took three years off from boating safety to run a USCG industrial facility, building, repairing and maintaining USCG facilities. After first retirement in 1989 rehired as Civilian engineer as compliance specialist enforcing safety standards for boat manufacturers. Now retired and having a good time. Live in my motorhome, travel when I feel like it (and can afford the gas) and pursue my hobbies, boating, boat building, fishing, and photography.

Been boating since I was a kid, over 60 years. Used to be mostly a sailer but bought a Sea Ray that needed restoration about 8 months ago. It's almost done! Meanwhile I have my 12 foot rowboat and 8 foot sailing dinghy.
 
My main provider for boating enjoyment is 26 years of ongoing Aircraft Assembly Tool Design. I also do vinyl graphics and web design on the side for extra play money which were picked up to help marketing during 10 years of offshore powerboat racing. The wife is a RN Insurance Medical Case Manager which also helps tremendously. Grew up my entire life on the Great Lakes with a Dad that was a dedicated Sea Ray owner from the beginning. The whole family loves being on the water, fishing, scuba diving or just relaxing - maritime memories that last a lifetime and I would not want to have it any other way. My background - Electronics Engineering. Have operated my own companies for the last 20 years.

Boating experience: Whole family is a sailing family for past 3 generations. My dad and 2 uncles was "professionals" in the boating industry. So spent my entire childhood & youth sailing everything with a mast. I lived in a Fishing/Recreational harbour and worked there on and off after school.

I did a lot of sail boat races with my dad - mostly as the helmsman on 30-36' boats.

This season was my first with a boat. I am a novice. :grin:

I am a manager of a team of Network and Telephony Engineers at a Cable MSO.
 
I'm a RF technician I install RF Microwave systems for cell phone carriers (VZW mostly) I get to travel all over the south east & Midwest working on cell towers and on the weekends I get to work on my boat.
 
Well, let's see - pretty much an electronics hardware/software designer gone bad. Started in aerospace and then to telecom/networking. Became a technology entrepreneur building a telecom/network systems company. Now have two companies: one is working on new battery chemistries (Ionova Technologies) and the other is the first (and only) online yacht exchange (yachtx.com). Trying to free up some time to get back to the water...
