410 Sundancer/Express Cruiser and 400 Sundancer/Express Cruiser **Official Thread**

Has anyone replaced the OEM Vetus bow thruster prop? I’m surprised to be having issues finding the new part number. Ours is presumably original and the 3 blade design. Versie 2 and 178x203 are stamped on the lip but that doesn’t turn much up in searches. Looks like vetus switched to a 6 blade design at some point

I also emailed vetus customer support

I think I got mine from Florida Bow Thrusters. It’s been a while and I don’t have any boat logs with me, but check them out.
It’s a change worth making, considerably quieter. Change the anode while you’re at it. I got that at Boat Zincs when I ordered the others.

Please don’t become one of those guys coming into a marina using those noisy bow thrusters constantly, just to stay straight in a fairway.

LOl I’ll do my best. There’s a guy with a 26 footer that has one he has to use it everyday it’s so loud

There is only one reason you will ever need a bow thruster on your boat. If you ever lose an engine, you will be very glad you have it.

yup, pretty much. I do have the wife bump the thruster after I unhook the bow line if the wind is blowing us off the finger

For those in the know, other than the 2 heads, is there much of a difference between a late 90s/early 2000s 380 and a 400/410 layout/size?

A 410/400 has an actual cabin door for the mid berth. The 380 does not, at least on the few I have been on. We have three each on our dock. I have also not seen many diesel 380's although I'm sure they are out there.

Otherwise, all else is equal?

I think the difference is quite noticeable. In pure numbers the 400/410 is 3.5' longer in the hull, 10" wider in beam, sits 8" deeper in the water and has 4,000lbs more beefiniess. That makes a big difference in how the boat feels, especially the beam.

The 380 does have a separate shower like the 400/410 which I think is a life changer in moving up. Beyond that having a real door on the mid-cabin is a big deal for families, having the second head is pretty great when dayboating since it's closer to the steps.

The layouts look very similar. It looks like the master head on the 400/410 is more spacious but it is nice that the 380 has the private entrance to the master berth. I think the 410 may have this too.

I initially started shopping for 380's when I decided to move up from my 340. A dock neighbor of mine convinced me to at least look at one 400. Once I did there was no looking back.

I'd recommend you get on both boats to see for yourself since the prices seem very similar.

I’d add that the beam is really felt in the engine room as well. I’ve been on a 380 with the 8.1 and they’re pretty tight. I can’t imagine how they crammed the 3126 in there but they are around

18 months ago, we were torn between the 380 and 410. Having had diesels before, that was the two stipulations-had to have diesels and a separate shower. There are/were some 380s with diesels. We looked hard at both models. The 10" wider beam was very noticeable in the ER and rear berth. My wife was all about the 2nd head on the 410. Then a 420 popped up out of the blue and the rest is history.

If I had to do it all over again and no 420 in the picture, I would go with the best most well maintained of the two. Again, the two main differences for me were the 10" wider beam and the 2nd head. Another determining factor for us was the fact that we do not entertain much at all and there are just two of us so the door to the MSR was not a big deal.

Just my opinion...
