Are you ready for an EV pickup?

Let that sink in. That truck can go 300 miles on the equivalent energy of 4 gallons of gas. Meanwhile, it will take the regular f150, 15 gallons of gas to do that. That’s just how inefficient an ICE vehicle is.

if you need to tow, get an ice f150. For those that don’t then consider an EV. The national target is 50% of sales to be either EV OR Hybrid by 2030. Which means you’ll be able to walk into a ford dealership and buy a F150 EV, hybrid, Gas or diesel. Pick the one that suits your needs. Why is this concept difficult to understand?

Yeah but with Biden, et al, gas will be $10/gallon by then so we will either be forced to spend an extra $10,000 on an EV or an extra $5000/year for gas. That is not by accident either

Biden won’t be in office in 2030. An EV is only 5-6000 over the price of an equivalent gas car. And they’re just getting started. They will get cheaper.

stop with this nonsense. I’ve gone out with Republican friends twice this week, and both times, I got to hear about how shitty my EV was and how they aren’t saving the world. This was while we were sitting on a boat that uses more gas in a good weekend then I use in a year with a car. Guess who isn’t getting invited back on my boat.

So legitimate question...all battery powered devices I own lose charging capacity after a year or two. So say I buy an EV that has a 300 mile range. Will I lose range after a certain amount of time? Say after 3 years I only have a 200 mile range?

No but the damage will be done. Not sure gas prices come down much even if the Republicans win in 2024. Many of these refineries will either be out of business or change their business model to survive and may not come back to refining crude. Maybe they will but I think this will be a hard ship to turn.
Oh...and don't be surprised if we see $10/gallon before he is out of office

Yes you will lose range. No you will not lose 100 miles of range in 3 years unless you mistreat the battery. which is exactly why you lose capacity in your cell phone. You probably charge your cell phone to 100% every night, even though you probably don’t need to.

The battery in my car is warrantied for 9 years, which means it will still retain 80% of life at that time, or be covered under warranty. So after nine years it is expected to lose less than 65 miles of range, out of the current 320 miles.

California is considering an option to require the batteries to be warrantied for 80% capacity after 15 yrs on 2026 models and later.

Many tesla owners are starting to see 150,000 miles on the original batteries and still retain 80% of the battery capacity. Yes you will be able to find news articles for those that don’t.

Our gas prices have historically been artificially low due to subsidies. Right or wrong, that wasn’t a free market.

Is it me, or should the least expensive/most versatile option be the GAS/ICE version?
And, if not, why?...

The grid cannot support 50% of EV sales by 2030. Show me a test where an F150 gets 300 miles.. but wait, there's more! Battery capacity and range will plummet when it gets cold out.

California's grid cannot support its population with a very limited amount of EVs... why is this concept so hard to understand?

That’s laughable. Believe whatever you want to justify your earth ore killing electric vehicle. Nothing is more energy efficient than the ICE. And you won’t have that smorgasbord of choices. They’ll be outlawing the ICE soon as it’s the only way to make EVs viable.

.

You would be foolish to let your EV run down to near dead unless you had multiples and you rotated them. Imagine your parents had an emergency in the middle of the night and they lived 100 miles away. That 20% charge left in your EV is worthless. That may be an exageration but the point is, this isn't a phone where if it goes dead it's an inconvenience for an hour. This is something you would NEVER want to go dead so you would always be charging it.

I was interviewed about 20 years ago by the Globe & Mail about the future of hybrids and EVs. The Prius was the only real hybrid out there and it it was the granola crunching Birkenstock crowd that was buying them then. (that wasn't my comment though). I said then that the market will decide when they become popular and the automakers will follow the market.

And as for legislation impacting what is available, democracies are based on governments being chosen by the people. So, like it or not, the citizens of the free world are deciding the path of vehicles and how they are propelled.

I don't think that the majority of Americans or Canadians will vote in a government that will outright ban ICE as one of the options or the freedom to chose. And if they do, then the majority will have decided (but I will not be happy).

My 20 years later prediction for the new future is that electric vehicles will be the predominant propulsion in 2050. Not because of laws, but because the technology will be so much better that they will truly be better than ICE propulsion for "most" purposes. And ICE will still be around.

You'll notice he did not reply to me as he likely can't find a test where the F150 did get it's 300 mile range. FWIW - my F150 would go 650+ miles on a tank when not towing, try that with an EV.

You obviously have not been paying attention. They are shutting down power plants around the world, to the dismay of many who as you said, voted these governments in... How do you figure EVs will be the predominant propulsion in 2050? The generating capacity just isn't here...

Now Germany is scrambling to keep it's nuclear plants online.

Funny, wasn't there a guy who told Germany it was a BAD idea to get energy from Russia?
