In 50 years of driving cars I’ve never had the empty arm snap back on the windshield when changing wiper blades. Until today.

South Carolina is a no inspection state. So now I just fit in with the rest of the cars around here. I’ll wait until it grows in warmer weather next summer. Plus will give me time to collect some more 18 wheeler rock cracks.Comprehensive insurance if you have it should cover it with 0 deductible.
For sure, I've had a couple. Once was backing my truck around the corner of the woodshed. I had the corner post lined up in my mirror, had plenty of room. Except somehow it wasn't the corner post I was lining up with. I was actually looking at one of the interior posts and whammo hit the corner post dead center....wrecked the tailgate and the glass topper door. We've all had OSMs (Oh S4it Moment). Fortunately your insurance will likely make you whole, makiing a priceless lesson free.

That really sucks, AutoZone broke mine years ago and offered instantly to pay for the replacement WS it was way low so not failing the NC inspection, took a rock 2 weeks ago right at eye level, USAA covered everything and SafeLight replaced it in my work parking lot. Sorry to hear about it.I have also hated replacing the wipers. I get confused. Yeah, not complicated, but I remember the ones in the 80s being a pain in the butt. So I let Advance Auto Parts do this one now. Never thought about what you experienced though. I wonder if Advance would cover it if they did it?
Yes, comprehensive insurance, if you have it, should cover, and the deductible is usually waived.
Perhaps one of my dumbest OSM was me trying to take a long piece of wood home from the hardware store inside my expedition. I put it in lengthwise with the rear seats folded down and the front of the board sitting on the dashboard on the passenger side. Went around back to close the lift gate and couldn't quite get it closed. So, I gave it a little extra shove. Heard a crack as the front of the board went into the windshield.
Only good news here is that it was the windshield I had already cracked from the windshield wiper
