Did you ever wonder where chipmunks go to die? No? Me neither. So I'm cutting the grass this evening, not really wondering about that question, either. Then I step into something soft and mushy. "Great!" I thought. "Someone's dog left a present in the yard." So I look down and see this former chipmunk.

Now what?

This weekend, we rafted up with a great group of people including Ron L, Alex F, and Jon L. One of the things that Jon said on Sunday was when he and his wife are making boating decisions they apply the principle of "What would Frank do?" What an inspiration! I decide to do the same thing. Unfortunately, Jon didn't specify which Frank.

Let me see. Frank W: "Is it a northern chipmunk or a southern chipmunk? I can't help you without you filling out your chipmunk profile." That's not much help.

Frank H would just not bring lobster. Don't see how that would help, either. But at least not having melter butter won't be a problem. Then he'd probably ask if the chipmunk's next of kin would like to buy his 410DA.

I (Frank C) would just make fun of the chipmunks spelling, grammar, and punctuation, and that's no help. Then I suddenly knew what to do! I asked my self, "What would Gary do?"

So here's the photo.

Be glad it's a small image.

I can't believe you've killed a Chipmunk. What do you normally use for crab bait?........

Do what I do in cases like this...........screw the profile, go get the backhoe and "dissappear" the chipmunk. And, if you accidently participated in said chipmunk's demise, then I'd hurry before PETA caught wind of your indiscression.

I was thinking garbage disposal myself. . . . .

. . . .the Cat wouldn't want it after it was dead.

I would not have posted just one picture. I would have posted a picture of the dead chipmunk, then one of my dog rolling in it to transfer the smell to her fur, and then another of the dog laying on my wife's pillow... and then one of all my crap on the front lawn looking for a good divorce lawyer.

Think recycle... How about a fur cover for my key float?

Hey Frank, is this one of those chipmunks that decided to install a Honda portable generator he got on sale from Home Depot in his engine room?

i think that critter died of exposure to crab grass.

that's the only good kind of chipmunk, dead.... one of my neighbors thinks composting her yard is a good thing... now we're infested with the d*mn things... She moved in about 10 yrs after I got here, the previous neighbors were great, I wish they'd never have left. I've got real good at taking care of the chipmunks now, I've been doing it for the past 3 yrs... they're everywhere here... and I'm still getting 'em. I got 16 in 14 days 2 yrs ago! Now I only get 4-5 a summer, but they keep coming.

A few yrs ago, when I first set it up, she came over, and tripped over my trap one day, in the middle of my yard...she left deep tracks (she's a big woman...) directly back to her yard. I gave her crap and told her to stay to h*l out of my yard. She said all the Peta things... and I told her as soon as they stopped digging holes in my yard near my foundation and stopped crawling into my attics, I'd stop. This woman's yard is just a nightmare, my entire neighborhood hates it, it's bringing all of our house values down a lot. Friends drive by, and can't believe it. She has a truckload pile of compost in her front yard that's been there now for 6 yrs... she's only taken a couple of shovels out of it. The neighbors cats sit next to it, and catch mice all day long, then she gets mad, and chases them away, and complains to the owners that their cats are in her yard. DOH! I have to mow her ditch, she won't, and the guy on the other side, mows her back yard and front yard because she won't. She has huge black trash bags filled with leaves all over her yard. I'd love the town to condemn her yard.

Anyhow, good job with the chipmunk!

Well that was interesting!

Good suggestion, Frank, but a backhoe is a bit overkill for the problem. Just dumped it into my grass clippings compost heap. Anyway, cousins Vito and Nunzio really know body disposal tasks. If I need any advice on that topic, I know whom to call, not that I ever needed their services, yet.

Gary, if you stepped on the chipmunk, you probably would have slipped, fallen and needed a ride to the emergency room, so there would have been no pictures of the dog on your wife's pillow.

Ron, I'm fussy about the front lawn, but less so about the back. There are only so many lawn-care battles I want to fight. On the other hand, if you're volunteering... the spreader is in the garage.

VTSeaRay. Eww. People around here aren't allowed to do that. Doesn't the town or county have a compliance officer to whom you can make a complaint?

Best regards,
Frank

VT.... That crazy a$$ woman wouldn't sleep a wink as my neighbor. I'd pipe in some high decible tunes via two 6100 Marshall amps. I suggest Ted Nugent from 10pm till 2am the AC/DC until 6am. If she opened her pie hole I'd introduce her to the busines end of the 9mm. Of course the Mayor would be for warned to either do some "Mayor-ing" or risk a simular plight.

mwph - I'd love to, but I have neighbors on the other side of her, and next to my place and across the street with little kids...
