Damaged running gear

Doesnt look too bad. No fiberglass issues? If thats the case, You should be back up and running pretty soon.

I take it the drive tunnels are 2 to 3 inches thick ,just for that reason

I hit a not chart plotted rock. Bent both props. Shop was able to rebuild both for 3,200. I belong to BoatUS. They had to come 50 miles. Got boat to marina then arranged to have the boat halled next day. Saved my insurance company bundle. They would not reduce the detectable even though I saved them a few thousands. Insurance paid 100% of claim less deductible. They did not come and look.

What a Bummer. Good luck.

I have another set of props. I will not rebuild them if it costs that much.

I wish they were that thick. Maybe on an old Mainship. I had to rebed the struts on my 2000 410 DA and that area is only about 1/2 thick

This is one that was cracked when a log got between the prop and the tunnel. To repair it ......you have to grind the inside down to the gelcoat and rebuild the bed.

Thank you. So my estimate so far has hit $9700. I am trying to source struts which I was quoted $3000 for one. Called sea ray they had no info for me. Anyone have any parts sources for a 1987 Sea Ray 410 aft cabin?

The struts can be straightened ....if they need to be. The damage you had didn't look like it bent the struts. Just curious......how do they know they are bent?

I wish I could be more help. Sea Ray doesn't have a Parts manual available for your boat. Do you have a part number for the strut? I have several numbers for 1989 but nothing for 1987.

@PlayDate . That's a nice looking repair. Lots of work. Looks great

Thanks.....I paid for this one and hired a guy who actually has a set of Sea Ray strut molds that he used as he did the repair. Lots and lots of fiberglass grinding. One of the few repairs I am really glad I had someone else do!

I believe it that's a little bit more than I could chew looks sweet man

I went through the same if not greater disassembly. The struts were pretty bent, they (General Propeller) were able to straighten them. Start at this post and follow my posts for the saga and repair sources -

too painful.....to follow the thread. I learned about ice makers, removing tv cabinets and fixing the sliding glass door before I quit. General propeller looks like an excellent choice.

Sorry to say but SR has become useless as tits on a bull. Useless customer service. This SR (6th) will be my last because wife said this last one but if i ever hit the lotto and she gone, I seriously doubt I would get a new SR.
I think this is a bit unfair in this case. They built the OP's boat 36 years ago. I can't imagine anyone is still working there was present when they built it and hoping for parts is just not possible.

I believe they should have given him the part number for the strut but honestly I'm not sure it would be very helpful other than ebay.

IF his struts are bent.....maybe one might be. He can get it straightened in Florida for sure.

SR has changed its inventory management over the years. Once upon a time they kept part inventories for longer than 10 years but not anymore. Once 10 years are up....they sell excess inventory to FPMarine for pennies on the dollar.

I can't say I blame them.......they are still managed by the twits at Brunswick who really ruined a great American company.
