Great Lakes Ice Update.

Just chatted with a buddy of mine on Pikes Bay in Bayfield WI. Supposedly the ice 'just' blew out this last weekend. Geez.....
Still some ice cubes floating amongst the docks. If we could get one day of sun it would all be gone. Going up to the boat this weekend, got lots of stuff to do, will probably end up living in the storage shed for a couple weeks. Launch date of 5/27.

I'm heading up to Corni next week to do a wellness check on the cabin. I wonder if my buddy will have his Amberjack in at Pikes? He was thinking possibly this weekend. He's at the farthest dock on the left at the bottom of the hill.

I believe its suppose to start warming up next week Woody. Fingers crossed.

Oh great more ammunition for the tree huggers

It's been a strange fall and early winter for sure. Still no snow on the ground to speak of even up on Georgian Bay at our place there. And there is no ice yet on the bay, even in our protected harbour at the marina. Just a thin crust at the edge. Normally the bay the marina is on is frozen over by now.

The long range forecast shows temps dropping to the low 20s around the middle of January though. Just in time for the Toronto Boat Show that starts on the 19th. Its ALWAYS frigid the week of the boat show.

I look forward to a bit more droppage. I peaked at 4 steps to get up into my boat in 2020. Having 1 or none would be a real treat, less wear and tear on my knees :)

Have you considered sterning in and walking right onto the swim platform?

For a minute I thought I was helping by emptying our Ice maker and freezers of ice at Haul Out. What do I know...

Aside from it's' their marina and their rules, is there a "good reason" for prohibiting stern in?

Everyone was thinking it.....I just stepped up and outright asked

Jaybeaux

Ha. Yes, I believe it’s to protect the corrugated sea wall in front of the boats. Prop wash, over time, can probably do some damage and/or undermine the wall? Just guessing though. Could also have to do with the location of the pedestal I guess.
