I'm in Cancun now. I passed the navy station on Isla Mujeres and there were at least 2 dozen stolen boats docked there. These boats were most likely from Florida, went to Cuba, and beached in Cancun with their human or drug cargo. We're staying with friends who live here. They said these boats will go to auction and sell for a maximum of 1/4 of their US value. The triple OB center consoles sell for around $25,000. The government will not return them to the US. There was an interesting article about this in Boating Magazine recently. Check out the triple OB center consoles. There are a few sport cruisers and one gianormous sport fisher. Sorry, I couldn't get any closer for the pictures.

WOW.. I think I went shopping in the wrong country. This is total BS, that a foreign government has possesion of US property and won't return it. I hope the orginal owners had insurance.

BTW.. The weather looks so nice there.. I just finished up with the snow blower.. 21 degrees and blowing snow right now.

I read the same article, The US embassy tried to get the Mexican Government to return them. I guess we only have extradition treaties on people and cars.

They did and paid through the nose for it. This is one of the reasons that premiums are so high in Florida. I don't think they will sell to non-Mexicans at the auctions. If they did, what are you supposed to tell the US when you are attempting to registrer a stolen boat hull ID#?

I'm getting the pictures. Is anyone else? Ed, is there something I did wrong with the "insert image?"

Mike,

I see the pics just fine ??

As a matter of fact, did you get a price for the big Dancer?

Enjoy the beach time.

I still see the picture.. Those other guys must have Mexican PC's' :smt001

wow...i should have went to cancun and bought one of those boats.

For those that can't see it.. It looks like the Miami Boat show with about 30 or so newer center consoles and all look like all they are over 30ft with most boats having 3 or 4 engines.. The crown jewel is a big yellow sport fisher.. maybe a 75 feet Viking? with a fully enclosed bridge in the background, with a couple of Mexican rib boats on the dock. About 6 or 7 pictures.

I'm on my home system now and the pictures are there.

I see the pics.
They must be making a killing selling these. Think about it, they would never want things to change. They are LEGALLY selling stolen Boats. Must be nice. If you do the same with cars here, Slammer!

That's a interesting question. If it was stolen and insurance claimed - you bought it in Mexico (or elsewhere), what would happen registering it? Could you? Or, if you register it elsewhere, say Bahama's, then come to Florida, if the ex-owner notices it, could you get in trouble? If not - I think there is a flight to Mexico in the AM - and the Dancer looks nice!

Great shots - we go to the island every year. Last year's selection of boats was not nearly as nice - but the thought then was they were confiscated as well. That has been getting a lot of publicity - so we'll see how it ends up playing out. We rent a house on Sac Bajo 2 down from Casa Rolandi's. Enjoy your stay - it's a fantastic place to relax. Enjoy Jax's bar, and the Swing Bar at North Beach....well - make that North Beach in general.
