Hey guys I am getting ready to do a overhaul on my boat and I am hoping someone can confirm that what I am planning will actually work. I am getting ready to put a SmartCraft network in my 2004 Sea Ray Sundancer 320 w/ 5.0 MPI I/O engines so I can get my engine data on my MFDs. I have a Raymarine Axiom 9 installed on my dash already and i plan to remove my gauge cluster and mount 2 Axiom 7s in place of my gauges. I am going to start by adding the SmartCraft network and hook it up to the MFD that is currently installed and make sure everything is functioning correctly before i continue. I am hoping someone can take a look at my plans before I get into this to make sure I have it correct

this is the SmartCraft network I based it off of

Do you have smartcraft gauges now? If so just buy the vessel view mobile and download the app on you phone or tablet to view all data from your engines.

Unfortunately everything is analog the only smartcraft in the boat is the harness at the engine.

David, I've been working with a diesel Smartcraft setup so don't know much about gas installations but here are some thoughts I hope will be useful:
- It looks like the harness you plan to connect to the engine is a straight-through version that will only carry the data coming from the engine ECM.
- You show the fuel harnesses connecting to the engine, do you have a place on yours to plug them in or are they already connected? I have only seen fuel (and other senders like rudder angle, etc.) attached to a harness coming off the engine connector that provides for multiple connections. I've seen this harness referred to as a "Vessel Adapter" and "Medusa" harness.
- Any special reason for putting the gateways, J-boxes and a NMEA 2000 backbone in the engine bay? It would make sense if you're planning on more NMEA 2000 devices there. Otherwise, the cables are typically going to be quite long anyway and if you have room you could put the J-Boxes and gateway at the helm and plug in to the backbone at the dash.

I've got some Smartcraft drawings I've found that might be helpful. PM me and I can email them if you'd like.

My engines have a plug for a fuel harness I believe that's how they get the fuel smartcraft guages on boats that only have smartcraft and no NMEA. That's also a project for later I'm not 100% sure it will work that way and I may have to go a different way.

The reason for the J plugs, NMEA GATEWAY, and half the NMEA 2000 back bone in the engine bay is there is not a lot of room under my dash the cabin door slides in there I may also add more nmea 2000 devices in that area in the future. Especially sense the raynet Ethernet switch will have to be under the dash and it looks like it is going to take up some space

I would happily see anything you have I will send you a PM with my Email shortly.

If you have the smartcraft harness on your engine you can plug the vessel view mobile in there.

will this work with cummins bta5.9 mercruiser smat craft 1.0?
Stephane, it may work out of the box but it likely depends on the date of manufacture of your engines. The newer Smartcraft devices such as VesselView displays need a compatible SIM module; I assume that is true of VesselView Mobile. Here is an article showing what to check for in terms of compatible SIMs: https://www.sbmar.com/cummins-dieselview-display-upgrades/.
