My boat has too much power

nope...everyone in the cockpit area...several folks standing in the walk way next to the helm seats....8.1's are monsters

i am impressed..... ......the most we have had on the boat so far is 6 adults and we planed off OK....not sure the 6.2's could handle 13 adults AND plane the boat but for sure 13 adults could enjoy a slow coctail cruise with the 6.2's.....

cocktail cruising is what we usually like but we had a long way to go....13 was as many as we've ever had on it...I wouldn't do that too many times but it was fun this time.

its fun to test the boat once in a while to get an idea of its limitations...sounds like with the 8.1's there may not be any limitations as far as performance of the boat....

if we put 13 people on our boat we probably would not make it out of the 'no wake' zone of our marina before we got pulled over by law enforcement to check things out....we have 3 different law enforcement agencies that patrol our lake and they have a very good presence everywhere....

not that this is a bad thing....

Just busting your chops.

NOw on topic whoever stated the the 340 with 8.1's is the sports car of the Sea Ray lineup is correct. I am going on a 90 mile cruise next week with three other boats that cruise around 23-24mph. I'm not quite sure I can handle going that slow for so long. They are all pushing 3500 rpm to attain that speed. At that RPM i would be doing 31mph. I am going to have to back down to about 3150 and run full tabs to go that slow and stay on plane comfortably.

Try enlarging the tabs. I cruise comfortably at 3450 RPM running roughly 22-23 knots at slack tide with maybe 1/8 to 1/4 tab. With the stock tabs, I used to have to run them full down to get that speed at 3700 RPM. I'm not the speed demon I used to be. 19-20 knots is my comfort zone. Saving a lot on fuel as well.

you may want to read your owner manual..

well....let's see.....no luggage so I have 2998 and some change pounds to play with......13 people....7 men...6 women.....let's say 200 average for guys ( we didn't all weigh that)=1400lbs.....let's say 150 for women (and if most heard me say that they would string me up by my ball sack) =900........=2300lbs.

Looks like I'm good but thanks for the concern.

not good .

this ce certification has to be read that the boat is certified to carry maximum 12 persons or a total load of 1360 kg ( passangers + baggage ) whatever occours first.

so you ( in legal terms) cannot carry 20 kids even when you are pretty safe regarding the weight.

the passenger limitations take mainly into account seating opportunities available in the cockpit / cabin for a safe ride without the danger for people to tumble or fell overboard being crowded anywhere when underway and the weight limitation takes mainly into account sufficient boyancy , handling and stability characteristics for a given sea state ( "b" in this case )

sure... as long nothing happens whe just enjoy the day on the water

best regards

I also believe your interpretation is incorrect. It’s not an “and/or” situation.

You can have a maximum of 12 persons on your boat based on that name plate data for your boat.

And, those 12 people, plus all of your “luggage” cannot exceed the stated load.

The only reason I alerted you of this, is because on my 360 I believe it was also 12 people, and I have to remind the Admiral of this a few times.

You may have a different opinion as to the load capability of your boat, but if the guys in the orange boat with flashing blue lights board your vessel, I would be they will have a different view point.

At the risk of causing more argument  and not that Do Over needs my help but ........

To the best of my knowledge - when a airplane, taxi or a bus describes their maximum passengers - they exclude the driver from that count. I am not sure the boys in blue would buy it - but it would be a fun defensive debate if I was pulled over with 12 passengers :smt038

thats an interesting question ! when you google it you read mostly persons on board but sometimes you read indeed passengers on board. i did not found a clarification if the driver is included or not.

one more thing : i heard 12 is the absolute maximum regardless of boat size because above 12 persons ( or passengers ?? )the vessel is declared not anymore a pleasure craft but a passenger ship and so has to comply with international maritime regulations . can some really big boats skippers confirm or disregard that even lets say +45 feet searays do not have more than 12 people certified in their ce ?

even more : is the CE in USA mandatory law where the boys in blue can charge you for or is it just a manufacturer recommendation ?

My 38 Sundancer says maximum 14 people + luggage = 1,725 kg.

Wait a second. I'm going to check my plate this afternoon, but i am pretty sure that it says, "yacht" certified or something of that nature and doesn't give a specific weight. I could be wrong though. Also, you guys are excellent at derailing threads. Another point to make is that the plate you posted is for the 03.5 to 08 340 not the 99-03 version.

Now back on topic i'm glad i have 8.1's to push around the three tons of crap my wife brings on board.

The posted number is all persons, driver included. Extra dogs and cats are allowed.

I wish my boat went slower.

Pretty sure I don't have that tag that BF posted......I do have a "yacht certified" tag on the helm......I will check today when I go to the boat for the weekend.....in the mean time I'm calling BS on the 12 + luggage till I see official documentation....ya'll know how questionable stuff ya read on the interwebs is.
