Sink hole in Corvette Museum

That is really grim...I'm not a Corvette fan or even a GM guy for that matter, but that is just a sad turn of events. Hate to see antiques or rare vehicles of any kind get destroyed!

when most places expand they go up or out...not down.
really it's a shame...I've been there, nice place.

It's interesting that the sinkhole appeared just about in the middle of the display area. I wonder if they'll take a look at the engineering drawings and see what underground and foundation work was done in that immediate area.

I'd sure be moving the rest of those 'vettes out of danger.

I'd look at a mineral survey...that's coal and oil country.
probably a shaft mine or oil cavity.

We were there a couple years ago. Waste of a great bunch of cars. That display was absolutely beautiful. I'm not a Vette guy but know art in motion and those cars were just that. Hopefully they can be recovered (or should I say uncovered) and restored.

I live in Bowling Green and I have to tell you there are not any coal mines or shafts in southern KY. This is Cave Country, The whole town is built over caves and sink holes. It is about 20 miles From Mammoth cave National Park. Once planted a tree in my back yard dug down 35 inches hit rock needed one more inch struck the rock got a hole 49 feet.

There is a video on youtube showing a drone taking video down in the hole.

Looks like that hole keeps on going down too on the right side of that video!

The report records 8 fell in. I only see a few. To your point Jim that hole must be very deep as the other must be stacked on top of each other deeper in the hole.

Major pucker factor right there.

I stand corrected..and by that drone video it sure does look like a cave with the crystaline structure on the sides.

That's REALLY lousy. You'd think they'd do periodic soundings in areas that are known to be prone to caving in like that. There must have been other sinkholes before this one in that area?
