Hello all. I'm new to the site. A master reset was done on MY 2004 280 Sundancer by the dumbass owner (smh) and now the fuel gauge does not work. I took my boat in to a certified MerCruiser mechanic who was able to get all the other gauges to work again, thankfully, but not the fuel gauge. It worked perfectly before the master reset. Does anyone out there have some suggestions on how to get it working again.

Have you tried recalibrating the tank? On the 280 the tank set up is easy as it is effectively a rectangular tank. Yes, it is vee shaped at the bottom, but the pickup is mostly above that. That means you can use the one step method; fill the tank, go to calibration in the Smartcraft set up (it was under “vessel” as I recall from the sc5000 on our 280), then choose simple method and press calibrate. That’s it. The fill to a quarter & calibrate, then half, then three quarters, etc is for odd shaped tanks where an inch of vertical travel of the sender equated to different volume changes.

Henry, thanks for the reply and sorry for the delayed response. Fuel gauge is working after all. I just wasn't patient enough to let the fuel level register after turning on the power. The needle moves very slowly so I thought it was not working but it reads true. Thanks again.
