I will post for further research in the Dinghy forum but am looking for Sea Ray 380 specific information here. I have the 2003 380 which is a 42' LOA which includes the platform. What I am not able to find anywhere or get a clear answer from Sea Ray resources is what the specific weight restriction limit is that the platform can support and travel with. The purpose of this research is to assess what weight dinghy I need to cap my shopping at, taking in to consideration the weight of whatever Davit system I decide to go with for this dinghy.

Any input on this would be appreciated. I am attaching pics of my platform so there is no confusion on what style it is. This is the factory platform I believe as other 380 owners will recognize.

Sea Ray is the only definitive source for this information. Based on the ratings for my 400 you will likely be looking at 600lbs total, or less, including the davit. This is the rating for the transom, not necessarily the platform.

If you're anywhere near that amount of weight you'll want to add support struts to the platform.

I think a good question is - over time are cantilevered platforms to be de-rated?
I ask that because when composite structures flex over time and use, the resin will start to break down. The resin and glass in a solid matrix is the strength and stiffness and when one or the other is compromised the structure degrades. The same goes for any wood laminated in the structure.
Possibly the manufacturer over-rates the platforms to account for the aging....
Just a question...
