Wireless security camera suggestions

Bringing this thread back up because I'm finally getting wifi on the boat and want to add two cameras. Looks like Blink is the way to go but my question is how do they hold up in the heat? Not worried about the cabin camera but the exterior camera will be in the cockpit and it gets insanely hot between the direct sunlight which will be beating on the camera and the overall temp from the cockpit cover.

I'll look for a shaded spot for the cockpit camera but if not will this camera hold up to the sun and heat?

I looked at Blink but went with "Wyze Cam Pan" as I could fit a microSD card in and get 2+ weeks of recorded footage. One in the cockpit and one in the cabin. Zero issues with heat and we keep the camper canvas closed during the week...easily 100+ in there...

I have two of these mounted on the dock and they have been going over 3-1/2 years with no issues. Back of the slip faces West so we get lots of sun and and heat in the afternoon. One is reading 101 degrees and the other is reading 107 degrees. Current air temp is 90.

Would be great if there was a camera that would be incorporated into an intruder alarm on the boat.

Someone enters the cockpit and the alarm goes off, plus you have the photos.

Anyone doing this?

BEST !

Can you guys post how you have your forward facing cameras mounted.

I have an access cover for the anchor light in the hardtop. I used that to mount the camera. The camera is remote rotates 360.. has motion alarm that records and texts

I use Arlo Go 2 cameras since they are cellular ones and don’t need power or WiFi. I have one on each side of the radar arch for forward and aft and one in the engine room. That way they work on anchor, when winterized, if the boat is stolen, etc. they have gps location and they do have a siren for the person suggesting one. Love them.

Yes, the Arlo one has the feature. I prefer quiet and see what’s happening first.

Late to this party, but FWIW these are my observations around the camera's I've tried.

- Blink. Fantastic cameras and decent enough software...BUT..my blink base once connected to my neighbors camera and I could see the goings on inside his cabin. Apparently security is not very good.

- Foscam. Good cameras but requires a PHD in script-kiddie to view remotely, especially if going through a cell based hotspot.

- Eve HomeKit camera. HomeKit access is intermittent at best so not reliable. Camera itself is mediocre during the day and almost useless at night.

- Wyze. Best software for remote viewing, but nighttime performance was terrible.

- Reolink. Good software, decent nighttime performance, but sensitivity adjustment is a bit touchy. This is the best overall for my usage and internet setup.

I don’t know this PHD stuff in script kiddie…. All my Foscam ptz’s went thru marina Wi-Fi to my Foscam phone app…. Zero issues setting up…. Basically scan the cameras bar code and your done. Recording goes to the cloud that was painless. Foscam is a good value for the money option in my opinion

Geez, even more toys for me to buy for the boat. I was thinking about this with winter coming up and I'll be away from the boat for about 3 to 4 months with it in the slip. The Marina has password protected Wi-Fi. Covered slip so solar isn't going to help me. The Marina has cameras on the dock, which I know work cuz they recently went through them to try to find something.

Still confused which camera to go with it would even after reading this thread. I'm thinking something like the one in @Blueone photo that can easily mount in the cockpit, on the underside of the radar Arch, above the helm facing Stern.

Wyze Cam Pans for me. Throw a 64gb microSD card in and even if it loses wifi, it'll still record. Blink only records motion, I like the 24/7 recording that you can watch playback from anywhere.

Is this a good one to start with

Wyze Cam v3 with Color Night Vision, Wired 1080p HD Indoor/Outdoor Video Camera, 2-Way Audio, Works with Alexa, Google Assistant, and IFTTT https://a.co/d/fhGP10p

I have those at the house (in the floodlight mount). Get the Wyze Cam Pan as they will rotate and you can zoom and tilt.

Maybe its improved since I tried it. You used to have to open ports on a router, setup a dns service, and beg the cell provider to allow it to pass through.

Are you using the Wyze cam pan outside?
