I’m quite tempted…price has been recently reduced from 240k to 180,000 euros! Looks to good to be true!

I’d like to go and have a look at the boat, but I’m afraid I could give in! Please convince me not to betray my old lady!!!

PS: was the 2001 510DA hull cored???? Could it be the reason for such a low price???

I don't know about any of the technical stuff but I want to buy it now and make it my condo in Rome!! LOL

The 510DA is the biggest 50 ft boat you will ever find...............this particular one has Caterpillar 3196 engines, the ones known to have aftercooler failures. Search the internet or CSR for some reading 3196 engine problems.

My favorite Sea Ray model! The 3196's had a problem with bad o-rings for the aftercooler and some ingested water. Ask the broker for information on the repair for that issue or even contact Caterpillar with the engine serial numbers to see if the repairs were done. There is one in the Midwest right now with 3406's.....I like that one!

Well I have been looking at these engines. It seems that if you have had the third version of the after coolers on the engines that seems to have been successful. Based on the 2008 data. I've read.

Frank, what about the hull? Was it cored???

Find one of these with CAT 3406E engines and you'll have a total beast! Love the space and layout of that vintage of 510DA... looks huge but well proportioned. Bigger CATs make this boat fly!

I thought you were acting like you wanted to be talked out of going forward with the 510......I gues I could add fuel to the fire. So how much you want for that beautiful 390! lol

It only has 120 hours on her so it must have been used as a floating condo already.

Selling my 390???? :wow: No, no, no…..
Ok, I’m convinced… not going to buy it! Economy still low, not the right engines…. My 390 is in perfect shape and it’s still exactly what I need!
Nice boat that 510…I guess it will be for sale for a loooong time! But I’m dreaming of one with the 3406 now… my next project in 10 years

I can't blame you....As nice as that boat is yours is got a lot of you in it since the re fit. I couldn't sell her either.

I looked at a couple of these before I bought the 480DB and they really had me interested but had to stay with a bridge boat. Anyway, this behemoth has more freeboard than alot of motoryachts. 3406s have an honest cruise of 31 mph and 42 top end. Those piddly little 660hp 3196s only push this 20 ton boat to a 38 mph top end and 28mph cruise. Who wants that kind of measly performance.

As far as the 3196's go, it's been stated many times that the key is due diligence. You must check the service history. Cat will (should) have records of any service they have performed including aftercooler replacement, boost sensors (changed to brass in '02), etc. CAT should also have oil samples on file basically allowing you to see how the engine components are wearing and if there are any problems. The motors should be thoroughly worked up by a knowledgeable tech (I'd even suggest a surveyor be present when the engine is checked out under load). If blow-by tests come back fine, engine work-up shows all measurements within spec (fuel pressure, max rpms, temps, boost pressures, etc), and the service history checks out clean then I wouldn't be afraid of 3196s. If any of this information is not available for some reason OR if you are not going to put the time, effort or money into gaining the information you need in order to make an informed decision, then yes, I'd go a different direction unless the boat is priced low enough to repower. my 2 cents...

Ken, I'm going to be a Oxbow this weekend if you want to come by for a cold one.

Just browsing and I saw somebody say a 50 footer cruising at31 mph? And topping out at 42?. Am I reading correct? Didn't think that was possible. What are you burning at 31? And what are your RPMs? This is all new to me so excuse my ignorance
