420/44 DB Owners Club

Hey 42/44 friends, might consider drilling a hole aft of the catwalk, just forward of the petcocks in the stern. I had this misterous fresh water always showing up at far aft after a run. Turns out after I opened this up, I sucked out about 10 to 15 gallons. I am in saltwater and this was fresh. Not from my water system, but rather rain water finding the lowest point to travel. Found my boat waterline moved up about 1/8 in. I found these caps to plug the hole, but easy to pop off with a flat screw driver. Good news I found my last rain water leak. Bone dry now.

FYI these valances are held in place with the plastic Christmas tree studs so they just pry out.
So we have the fabric ceiling panels in our '89 440 salon, are they also held up with these? We are DIY folks and wanting to recover all the walls and ceiling, freshen up a bit...thx

Exactly the same position I cut mine - Wet vacced about 3 gallons. Also cut a hole just forward of the washing machine but was dry.

HI
MY SEARAY 44 SEDAN BRIDGE HAS HAD A FRESH WATER LEAK FOREVER AND I CANNOT FIND SOURCE.
WHEN IT RAINS OR I WASH BOAT I HAD WATER UNDER CATWALK BUT IN TRACING WHERE ITS COLLECTING, IT APPEARS THAT IT IS SEEPING UPWARD IN FRONT OF MY WASHER/DRYER.
I DRILLED 2 HOLES IN CATWALK . ONE IN REAR AND ONE IN FRONT OF CATWALK BEHIND SUMP AREA. IF I LET IT GO LONG ENOUGH, IT APPEARS IN BOTH HOLES, BUT IF I CHECK IT IMMEDIATELY AFTER A RAIN, IT STARTS OUT IN FRONT OF WASHING MACHINE AREA, BEHIND THE MID SUMP PUMP AREA AND SPREADS TOWARD REAR. I DRILLED A SMALL HOLE IN THAT AREA AND I CAN SEE THE WATER SEEPING UPWARD, BUT IT IS FRESH WATER, WEIRD.
I DO NOT KNOW IF THERE IS A SPACE UNDER THE RED FIBERGLASS COATING THAT I SEE IN THE HOLE AND DONT WANT TO DRILL THROUGH THE BOTTOM OF THE BOAT.
THIS DOESN'T SOLVE THE PROBLEM OF FINDING THE LEAK SOURCE BUT I NEED TO KNOW IF THERE IS WATER TRAPPED UNDER THAT AREA. I ALSO HAVE CAMERA THAT I CAN SEE 12 FEET IN ALL DIRECTIONS ON INSIDE THE HULL WITH ALL CUSHIONS, ETC REMOVED AND SEE NOTHING DRIPPING DOWN FROM INSIDE TOP. ALSO, NO UPOLSTERY STAINS OR WATER MARKS ANYWHERE.
ALL WINDSHEILD WAS RECAULKED AND ALL INSIDE MOULDINGS REMOVED TO CHECK FOR LEAKS AND NOTHING FOUND.
WHERE DID YOU FIND YOUR FRESH WATER LEAKS, WHICH MIGHT HELP ME TO LOCATE MINE.
THANKS
FRED

Do you turn your water system off when you leave the vessel? We left the water system on for about three weeks while it was in Wilmington Beach last year, when we went up to bring it to Savannah, the waterlime was 2" higher and the storage under the hull was about 1/3 full. We wet vac'd it out and brought her down the coast. After getting there, I found a loose hose clamp on the supply to the sink in the head, barely dripping, but in 3 weeks, hey. No probs since although I do not leave the water system under pressure when away.

My flybridge teak is almost ready ..

Does anyone know the black water tank gauge part number is. I am talking about the sending unit in the tank, it has 3 floats hanging off it.

Is it the Splendide brand you have on your boat?
Tom, I had the Splendide installed. It didn't work right so I took it out and added shelving because we don't need a washer/dryer right now. May add it back later. You are welcome to come by and see the rough-in. Will be there this weekend then that's it for the winter!

Good to hear from you, Brian. Hope you everyone is doing well. We are heading up tomorrow and it will be our last weekend as well. I'll ping you in advance if we can make it over.

Very nice, I think I am as excited as you to see her finished.

Thanks Mark. I’ve poured a lot of money into her .. Well worth it as they are a great boat

Very nice! That is an art form indeed. What is the process to install? That all comes apart then gets put down with a mastic? Or is it screwed and dowelled?
I found this; an interesting read on Teak decking -
https://www.yandina.com/TeakDeck.htm#:~:text=Re-caulking of structural teak decks is a continuous,it to swell and lift the teak off.

Great questions. It looks like they assemble and caulk off the boat. Below are the steps ready to go.

Great article too by the way. Some great tips on maintenance.
