Hockey gold medal. USA or Canada?

Congrats Canada! Good game, the canadians definitely played better than we did! Especially in the first 2 periods!

Very exciting game. Congratulations to our friends up North. I'm glad they let the pro's play. I think it was good for the sport.

Great game it was. Not sure why our "friends" up north decided (happened during both games between Canadia and the US) it was a good idea to chant "F_ck USA". Really classy though. Ron Wilson made a huge mistake in OT only rolling 2 defensive pairings and 4 forwards (mostly). you could see them getting tired. Great effort from both sides. For the US it is disappointing. If Canada had lost, the entire country may have committed suicide.

Oh yeah, I just briefly watched the closing ceremony. At one point they were rolling out "famous" Canadians (Bill Shatner, Micheal J. Fox...). Couldn't they find any that still live in Canada?

The wife is Canadian, me...all American boy. Should make for a good match. On paper it's the host team but the US of A is taking this one!:smt038

Damn! It will be a few days of gloating now.

I think the game meant as much to both teams but probably more to Canada as a nation. These folks really take it personally!

Great game........

If my memory serves me correctly (and most days lately it doesn't... but I'll give it a shot) the reason they went to "pros" was because the Russian teams were basically pros(except in name), and were whipping all comers from other countries who were using basically younger college hockey players that didn't stand a chance against the size and power of the Russian team.

Personally, I wish they'd have just pulled the Russian teams(or made them use college age players), and left it at the college non-pro levels.

Nothing new if your a Boston Bruins Fan, Montreal Canadiens Fans have a tradition of booing the American national anthem.

Well, they don't have a whole lot else to cling to for national pride, unless you count Celine Dion...

Yes, but they're mostly french speaking and classless (Sea Ray owners excluded:smt009). I expect much better from the western Canadians.

It was a great game and showed the class of both teams, to bad one team could not win the Gold. It was a case of losing the USA team was just as good as us, just one goal short.

Years ago the Russians had most of their athletes in the Army. They could then practices year round for the Olympic. The Russians lady hockey team is a professional team they are paid just play hockey. I suspect in 4 years you will see a different Russian team, today the President of the country fired every Olympic coach because of poor performance.

Back in the day they would have gone missing.

Dam...I didn't hear that! Anyway, sports create some really messed up moments. Some fans have no class. I was at a NY Giants football game against the New Orleans Saints. It was a Saints home game however it was played at Giants stadium because the Saints couldn't play in theirs ( Hurricane Katrina) Anyway, many, MANY, Giant fans started singing..."Row, row, row your boat" Not my fondest memory of being a Giants fan Don't blame a Country (or a stadium in my case) for the faults of the few.

Hockey? wake me up when college football starts! LOL!! Just Kidding Go USA!

Is what you've written your definition of class? Or is it sad, uneducated, stereo-typical drivel? Please share your experience in Quebec City, Montreal, or anywhere within La Belle Province that would support your otherwise baseless connection of speaking French and having no class?

The Boston-Montreal hockey rivalry dates back 90 years, and there are plenty of examples of poor behaviour to point to on both sides.

As to whatever you think you heard on the broadcast - how do you possibly know the context without having been in the arena? You may not have heard what you think you did. Without being there, it seems to be sore loser-behaviour...

I haven't seen an apology anywhere from the US Womens Hockey Team who may or may not have stamped on a Canadian flag on the floor of their dressing room...

Can't we just enjoy one of the greatest hockey games ever played during arguably the greatest Winter Olympics yet???

Canadians are a pain in the butt! Canadian quarters, pennies, etc....you know what I mean! The first thing you do is try to get rid of them when you get one.

If that all you have to ***** :smt089 about, then I guess that we don"t have too much to worry about from you. Have a nice day.

I agree with you.
All of the events are available "on demand" to watch again and no where could I hear them chanting that, I think the poster is very mistaken in what he thinks he heard. Great game to watch a second time, we won that one also.

Not so much. I didn't hear it, it was one of the US players from our city who mentioned the chants.

Well my comments were tongue in cheek, and I specifically excluded Sea Ray owners, but since you seem to want to go there, I will. My parents and god parents were run out of an establishment in Quebec City simply for speaking english. Now when I say run out, I mean threatened with bodily harm, jeered, and insulted. My mom speaks fluent french, so she got to enjoy the insults in two languages. My parents were in their late 60's at the time. Real class, huh, go after the old folks. All my parents were trying to do was have dinner in a local restaurant. These two couples have traveled all over the world together, and Quebec City was the only place they ever faced discrimination.

So you really want to bring up class, uneducated drivel and stereo types?

As to the F*** USA chants, that was related by someone who was in the building, a US player. And as to context, exactly what context would make it acceptable to chant F*** USA? We can compare education some other time.

As I said, my comments were tongue in cheek, but I obviously struck a nerve. And to your "sore loser" comment, I am just wodering how many Canadians would be calling that the greatest game ever if it had gone the other way? I mean, based on media reports, the country almost had mass suicides after the US won the round robin game.:wow:

Personally, I love hockey, but the "beautiful game" is really the perfect sport.

It was a great game though. Now I'm ready for the NHL, but I think the level of play will be a bit less than the either the US - Canada games.
