Left behind

I am trying to understand if in fact this is Trumps fault. Did Trump go around NATO and the Afgan govt, to make a deal with the Taliban? If so, why? Why would he make any deal with a terrorist group? Not trying to debate here, just want to understand, as objectively as possible!

Here’s the thing. The deal required the Taliban to negotiate a resolution with the Afghan government. They did not. Trump was gone so there is no telling what Trump would have done. Biden stepped in and created a cluster fk.

Absolutely it’s Trumps fault. Along with gas prices, inflation, southern border, crime, he’s behind it all.

I don’t think many disagree with leaving the region, it’s how it was done and how it continues to go that is mind boggling.

Reporting at the time.

‘Still, he said, the U.S. will stay in the country “until we have a deal or we have total victory.”

Dots connected - Thank you.

And I guess I am one of the few who think we should not have left Afghanistan. I viewed it as a strategic position in the middle of a bad neighborhood. And being there, kept China and Russia out. Other than us in Afghanistan, the only democracy in that region is Israel. I never thought we would turn it into a democracy, but it was more defensive than offensive. Just my humble opinion.

Agreed. We spent how much to build Bagram? Close to Iran, China, e.t.c. and just abandoned it in the middle of the night.

Bidens puppet masters are no dummies. I'm sure this is all going according to their plan to lower our standing on the world stage and hurt relationships with our allies...

Lots of Trump / Biden / Democrats / Republicans talk here. Supposed to be no politics on CSR in the main area. I know this is a sensitive topic that lots of us want to sound off on. I am going to move this to the Holding Tank so you can continue the discussion, but if it gets too heated I'll have to delete it. Thanks!

I too find this disgusting. That said, beware of any news story that throws in gratuitous details like "w chronic diabetes". That is an oft used media trick intended to increase buzz and controversy. It is sad enough that anyone was left behind, who deserved to be evacuated.

And make no mistake, Trump negotiated a withdrawal. Biden presided over an evacuation. The two are not even close to the same thing.

We’re going to be hearing about all the Americans and good folks Biden left behind.

They’re lying through their teeth.

What Biden (and entire cabal) is doing is called shaping.

They will legitimize the Taliban on the global exchange thus qualifying them for financial aid, probably to be paid by us.

You watch.

Trump negotiated a deal with the Taliban it was signed by him February 2020 with a withdrawal date of May 31st 2021, why did no one leave they had over a year?

Heck all they need to do is sell all our chit on eBay.

If i had to guess because that deal made was based on a number of stipulations that had to be met by the Taliban. Some of those stipulations were NOT met and the current administration drug out the withdrawal (probably in hopes that they WOULD meet those stipulations, which they did not). So in the end it became a hastily executed escape rather than a coordinated withdrawal (which was the original intention when the treaty was made in order to avoid exactly THIS sort of situation).

Here is a copy of the deal. Not really much in it. Once the troop size was reduced in the first 35 days the coalition was certainly at a disadvantage. I do believe the Taliban did not attack any coalition forces once the agreement was signed till the last week but that was blamed on ISIS

The very top of that agreement states the following:

1. Guarantees and enforcement mechanisms that will prevent the use of the soil of Afghanistan by any group or individual against the security of the United States and its allies.
2. Guarantees, enforcement mechanisms, and announcement of a timeline for the withdrawal of all foreign forces from Afghanistan.
3. After the announcement of guarantees for a complete withdrawal of foreign forces and timeline in the presence of international witnesses, and guarantees and the announcement in the presence of international witnesses that Afghan soil will not be used against the security of the United States and its allies, the Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan which is not recognized by the United States as a state and is known as the Taliban will start intra-Afghan negotiations with Afghan sides on March 10, 2020, which corresponds to Rajab 15, 1441 on the Hijri Lunar calendar and Hoot 20, 1398 on the Hijri Solar calendar.
4. A permanent and comprehensive ceasefire will be an item on the agenda of the intra-Afghan dialogue and negotiations. The participants of intra-Afghan negotiations will discuss the date and modalities of a permanent and comprehensive ceasefire, including joint implementation mechanisms, which will be announced along with the completion and agreement over the future political roadmap of Afghanistan.

I’m thinking all those requirements were not met entirely as intended. Certainly the “ceasefire” clause was not met during the final weeks of our exit as the Taliban overwhelmed the Afghan forces. That group sweeping across the country as police, military and civilians all flee in terror kinda strikes me as the opposite of a ceasefire and how the withdrawal was intended to go. once that began, our operations to leave Afghanistan should have halted as it was obvious how things were going. Instead, we hastened the departure which resulted in chaos and death. Not to mention handing over untold amounts of our equipment.
