New searay 370 Venture

Well............................................How does she run? I am sure several of you had the opportunity to run this machine at the Knoxville gathering. Fire away.

It is an amazing boat. A real example of thinking outside of the Sundancer box for Sea Ray. The engineering was well done and this is one of the quietest boats I've been on. The outboards handle the boat loaded with humans extremely well and it is quick. I thought the interior was more like a 30-32 ft boat and I was expecting a little more space given the fact that the mechanicals are hung on the transom. I also thought the ride was choppy, but honestly expected a ride issue since so much weight is aft...but my perspective is from a larger boat viewpoint. My only real criticism is that I don't like the new Euro-influenced hull profile. It looks more like a cigarette box in the water than the Sundancer "I'm going 100 mph when tied to the dock" profile I am used to.........why fix something that isn't broken even if you paid a consultant for the input.

I think SR has a winner on this one, but I guess we have to wait on pricing to see if it is a home run or a double.

My opinions of the Venture...it does not "feel" like a 37' boat. That being said, that is the only thing I didn't like about it. It was very comfortable and had a ton of cockpit seating. It is clearly designed for an entertaining boater. The majority of the galley is in the cockpit and it was designed that way so people can entertain and prepare outside with their guests. The full beam master is a great idea and is nice, however the configuration with the couch needs to be rethought and maybe changed around a bit. There is not a separate shower in the head which disappointed me with a 37' boat. I know a big question has been regarding a bilge area, gennie location, etc. There is a nice accessible bilge area that opens up from a large hatch in the cockpit to gain access to your genset, hot water heater, etc. We had 14 people in the cockpit when we took it out. It jumped up on plane quickly, handled great and everyone was very comfortably seated. The biggest wow factor for me was how smooth and quiet it was. With having the outboards vs engines under your seats, there was NO vibration at all! The boat rode as smooth as silk and was amazingly quiet. All you could hear on plane was the calming splash of the water and you could easily carry on a normal conversation. The sales manage was on board with us and the boat we were on would be priced in the low 400ks. That's my take on it. I'll include a few pics and gladly answer any questions if you have any.

Thanks for the reviews. I was really interested in the performance numbers.

It is a very nice quiet ride! The bow seems short for a 37ft boat but the cockpit is huge with plenty of seating. The 370DA roars and the front deck is so long compared to this model, Mike.

Hello. I would have to agree with some of you that this is truly an innovative and truly outstanding accomplishment for a sport cruiser of this size. Keep in mind this is not the final product and SeaRay will continue to improve the boat. I have been on the boat and it runs great for the power it has. The boat gets out of the whole "ok" but once she up she runs great. with half tank of fuel and 8 people on board we saw 43.6 mph. Does a 370 or 350 Dancer With 8.2's and inboards run that fast no.. (Axius 350 I have run in the 46mph range.) I have included a link to a quick clip of the boat running. Take note that all you really hear is the wind. The Verados are spinning in the 6400rpm range. . This is a Great boat for Barneget Bay boaters (shallow water). If anyone has any questions on this boat Please call MarineMax Brick at 732-840-2100.

from a mechanic's standpoint...
a reprop would be a nightmare
with the engines tilted the props were right at the seam where the swim platform met the hull
one simple access panel on each side would change the serviceability of this boat tremendously
and the demo boat was WAY overpropped for the 12-16 person loads it was carrying
with too many people it really didn't jump to plane
but I know this load would be out of the norm

The Radio is in a Brick somewhere else and wired to the Helm 'cause the door closes behind the Cockpit controls!!
I got that part but questioned the location/access to the mic and all the cord hanging out where it's going to be a problem or get damaged

Care to address the boxy cigarette carton hull profile when compared to other Sea Rays, and and also those huge black panels down the side of the boat?

I wish I could have seen it. I'm not i love with the large black panel below the rub rail, but I like the profile. In my opinion Sea Ray has gotten away from the classic sharp lines. I appreciate the straight rubrail and a bow that doesn't dip toward the sea.

To address some of the questions and comments on here:

The big black panel on the hull is/are windows. Not one big one, but two or three next to each other.
The "steam" out the side earlier that someone commented on needing a new gennie impeller is actually engine exhaust. Under 900 RPM, the engines exhaust out the sides (about a 1" diameter hole on each side) so as not to build up exhaust gas under the cowling and starve the engines of oxygen.
The "engine room" (which obviously didn't have engines in it) was VERY spacious. Very easy access to gennie, water heater, black water tank, fresh water tank, etc. SR could make this slightly smaller and increase the cabin area, but the cabin - I felt - was very spacious, especially with the larger window area providing more light and making it seem even bigger.
The vessel at the event (the only one made to this point - 4 are being built) had 13 pitch props on it. They have been trying different props and are not firm on what it will be released with.
At this point, the 300hp Verados are the only option. 350hps are being researched, but they are not going to be here in the near future.
They know about the prop accessibility issues. They aren't changing anything YET.

When we rode, the director of engineering for the 370 Venture was at the helm and answered a lot of questions about it. It was extremely quiet and it is true that all you heard (other than at the first push of the throttles) was wind and spray. Very impressive. I'd say it would be worth the upper $200s (not that I can afford that) but it would be disappointing to see it in the $400s.
