Official Cummins 6cta 450C thread

I went to start engines today on my 420DB and starboard engine is not starting. Does not make any sound at all. Like if the gear shift was not in neutral. When the helm switch is moved to on, the gauges power up and move as appropriate. I press start and I get nothing. If I press and hold start, and move the gear shift it will make a clicking sound which makes me believe the neutral safety is working.
What else can I check? The port engine starts fine.
Thank you

Ck batterys and connections , diesel's must have strong batterys to turn over.

Sounds like it could be an Aux Mag Switch... if it doesn’t close you won’t get power to the starter... you can jump to the starter with a screw driver to check. Switch is just below the starter. It’s a cheap part and a good idea to keep one as a spare

looks similar to this

This is exactly what it was. I swapped sides and it followed. can someone tell me the make and model of this solenoid? Mine has been painted over and can’t see any detail. I want to buy two so I can replace the bad one and keep a spare.

Thank you! I got two ordered and temporarily using a similar from local auto parts store.

Not sure if its my ocd getting the best of me but I noticed that hoses 17 and 16 in the below photo are reversed on both of my motors. The fuel lines are also mounted pointing downwards on the fuel cooler. I noticed this when changing impellers this past weekend and noticed that the port motor hose had a slight kink in it. The fuel line located closer to the raw water pump also has rust on it. Probably a result of a small water leak at the hose which cause it to run down and settle around the nut connecting it to the cooler. If I flipped the cooler it should prevent this in the future if there are any leaks. Of course the photo is probably a prefect scenario. Not sure if my lines are routed in a way that it can be flipped. Just curious how others have there hoses and fuel lines oriented

It doesn't matter if the fuel hoses are oriented up or down. If a water hose is kinked, loosen it and turn it so that it looks like the ones in the picture. I don't think there is enough slack in the fuel lines on mine to be facing down, but I have seen others that were.

I figured it doesn't matter on performance but thinking it would help prevent rusting and curious how others were oriented.

For those of you that have changed out the stock pump for one of Tonys. Do you recall when you did the install was everything needed in the box that the pump came in to swap out. Gaskets ... etc... will in need any gasket sealer?

Mine are at the boat and I cant remember what came in the box.

SMX 1730 Seawater Pump for 6BTA-M3 /

They come with the gasket, gear is already installed. I always use a little rtv sealer on the gaskets in situations where I am fumbling around trying to get things installed and bolts started from awkward positions in case I Nick a gasket.

Thank you. That is what I thought.

Hey guys buying a 2005 sea ray 42 sedan bridge has Cummins 6bta diamond series 450hp. The 1000 hour service was just complete, did these motors have head issues ???

No, head issues from my research was only on the 480CE version which is why I sought out and purchased my 2005 with the same 450 diamond series!

How do you like the boat and motors? What’s your cruise rpm and speed?

I’ve only had the boat in my possession a couple weeks and only done 3 short trips so still learning this boat.
So far we love the boat and as I’ve crawled around I’ve been pleased to find better than expected workmanship and quality. cruise at 2250 or so has given me approximately 20-21kts. But I’m still learning to trim her properly.
