This is our first vacation in 3 years….we are on the boat for two weeks. We do a lot of 3 or 4 day trips but it’s not like a stuck on a boat for a two week vacation. So far so good. The first thing we find out is we get to take our daughters dog along….my youngest daughter is changing jobs and orientation will put Teddy in doggy day care for two weeks ….so okay take the darn ( I wanted to say damn) dog. But…there are rules…we need special survival gear …..check Teddy out wearing the latest anti drowning apparatus ….he hates it….. but he gets very submissive ….this might be good :)

So the first thing we do is go to Cedar Point….sounds fun right?…. No such thing…I am out of fuel and desperately need a pump out….. Fun fact if you use two diesel fill nozzles you can spend $900 in less than 25 minutes…. Pic of where my $900 went

incredible ride across Erie today towards the Detroit river….didn’t take a pic….when got close to the river came across this barge….lake was flat. We veered off the channel and went to Ford Yacht club for the first time. I had heard really good things about this club….. and they didn’t fall short…this is a must stop…very cool place…very nice people. I don’t have pics yet …having too much fun.

Looks like you had some awesome weather!

Enjoy the getaway!

can’t wait to see more pics. Always wanted to do Erie and up the Detroit river.

"...where my $900 went..." Okay, I ran my gasser up to 3/4 full, and was whining about dropping $200. I'll stop whining now...
Haha. I was thinking I’m gonna be sticking with my S23 a little longer! That’s close to mortgage payment territory around here!
Someday!

LOL... Fun costs money!!! $900.... I was spending $5.50 a gallon in Bahamas for diesel (400 gallons x 3 fill ups) Looks like you are having a blast, can't put a price on that.

That’s the best money you will spend on your boat!
Enjoy the time on the water. Lots of pics please. I love seeing the kind of boating other people do. Its so very different across this great continent. Boating means so many things to people in the different places. And its all great because it combines boats, family and friends.

Ford yacht club on the south end of grosse Isle at the beginning of the Detroit river going North. I had heard good things about this place….we are only here for one night. Transient fees are $1/ft…$45 for the night. You can’t beat that. Great food and great people …the only thing they were missing was a pool and they are fixing that….new pool house and pool going in

Nice! I’d like to make it over to that area one of these days myself, did you say you’re going north from there? Cool bars up by St Clair Shores, Crews Inn is a really cool place, on the Clinton river, great food and drinks…watched a 65’ Viking dock there last year, stern in, with only 1 person onboard, it was really cool

Do you have any tips on things to bring with you? We are taking our first 5 day trip this week and I’m Nervous as hell.

Well the first problem I ran into is I don’t have 14 pairs of underwear…plus extras …. Everywhere we are going we are not far from a place to walk or dinghy to buy something we need….we brought a ton of beer and vodka…if you have those two things you don’t mind running out of the other things.:)

This year my boat has been a pain in the ass… so I brought more tools then I usually do and I brought parts I don’t usually bring….like sump pumps, floats, bellows, duck bill valves and a damn fresh water pump again….

Enjoy the trip! I had the twin pumps going in South Haven (first time) - $800 sure went quick!

@jmauld we bring it all, but we have two kids and already keep the boat loaded up. We did a ten day trip last month...sure felt weird getting back in a car afterwards!

So we made it out of the Ford YC and into the Detroit river….beautiful day…. No freighters and no boats really…for a Saturday seemed a bit strange.

The new bridge going across the river is started….both American and Canadian side has started. Don’t see that everyday

Then came across Scout….this became an internet trending thing since it stopped at Put in Bay for a couple days as it continued on through the Great Lakes… Basically it’s about a dead dog….a statue of the dog is on the bow in gold if you blowup the pic…boat is named after the dog…must have been quite the dog.
