Official 370 Sundancer thread

Meanwhile, here is a present for everyone. I colored the wiring diagram for the 7.0 BCG Westerbeke.
What I have never found, was a textual description of the sequence of events that happen electrically when operating the genset. I have a basic understanding of it, but I would love an explanation of the theory behind the start sequence, referencing the components involved. It might exist in earlier versions of Westerbeke manuals.

I dont think we'll ever find that!

Just put a deposit down on this 97' 370. NEW, not rebuilt 7.4 bluewaters, 40 hours. PO has done a few nice upgrades. Pending survey and water test we will have a new ride for this season:D

I'm working on reading this entire thread... but holy cow it's a lot. Think I might make up a spreadsheet for future lookers that categorizes or directs you what pages to go to for an issue you may be looking at. Anyway, can anybody give me a quick rundown of any known issues to look for?? Survey's not for a month so I have lots of time to read up and study, but just wondering if anybody has a quick run down of things to check.

Also, take a look at last picture. Cabin bilge where the shower sump is. What is that hole beside the float switch? Looks factory, but wouldn't the water run into that hole and then not be able to be pumped out as it's lower than the bilge pump?

@MattB92 Congrats on the new addition to your family!!! Very stunning boat!!!!
Having read the entire thread within the past year or so I will definitely say you have some serious reading to do over the next couple of months or so! :D Unfortunately there are a number of issues and scenarios that are highlighted but I will do my best to lay out the ones that stuck out most in my mind as I read through the posts when we were purchasing our boat.
1. Cockpit seating: Wood rot in the port seat, addressed many times but I do believe @370Dancer laid out a good idea for repair/resolve. Additionally check your cushioned speaker panels on the tower for wood rot. I am currently looking for ideas on replacing these as mine are exceedingly rotted.
2. https://370sundancer.com/ @RubberDuckeeToo2 put together this site and it has a TON of good pictures to get some ideas from in the event you are looking to do some additional upgrades etc, however your boat looks to be pretty well maintained and upgraded.
3. Removal of the OLD TVs, Microwave, stereo system. Yours appear to be upgraded already but its discussed quite a bit. Specifically on how to get those old items out!
4. Updating the Electronics in the cockpit.
5. Water entrapment in the Water Heater compartment.
6. Window Water Leaks......be sure to look at the seals on ALLLLLL the windows and check to ensure there are no signs of leakage inside. Water Staining or mildew smells etc....
7. Cracking / Breaks in the gauge panels
8. Carpet issues, worn, stained etc.... I see you have some beautiful flooring laid down already so congrats on that upgrade!!!!!!!!!!!!!
9. Anchor switch functionality, to include those up on the front of the boat
10. Adding larger TV's inside. Discussed many a time and a few different locations are called out.
11. Canvas Enclosures..... not an issue for you however it is discussed quite a bit in this forum.

It can and does go on and on but I learned a TON and do strongly recommend reading each and every post. There is repetitive info there but as per usual, the devil is in the details so take some time to sit down and do some light reading. :D

Today's project was to buff out the sticker shadow on the transom and install new stainless latches. NTS.

Also filled with epoxy the old mounting holes for the Ratheon radar. Now in my stupid move of the year, I also filled the hole I needed to pass thru the new radar cables. :)

1998 owners only please:
Has anyone done or can source a laser cut EVA for the dive platform and the aft platform area (upper)?
Looking for a very accurate template. Think I have a cutter nearby that can handle the size.
Ebay stuff is giving up after 7 years, which I would expect.

You could try calling TopDek here in Mn. They came out and did the laser measurements for my 1998 last year and should have that on file…

edit-looking through my email to see if I still have the file.

Everyone we know that has EVA is having to replace it after 5-7 yrs. I think we are going to stay with old fashion carpet.

1995 owners only please.
My waste tank is leaking. I'm looking into replacing it and I don't see any threads on it. I'm looking for advice from those who've "been there/done that". I have experience with Impellers, Bilge pumps, Winterizing, Fresh water pumps, etc. How hard/messy is it? What pit falls did you encounter etc.?

Has anyone experienced an engine not starting after use.
More specifically, if i jump aboard, it fires right up. If I drive for 30-45min, anchor for an hour or two, my port motor won't crank. Wait overnight and it fires up no issue.
Power comes on, but nothing at all when depressing the start button (not even a click).
Self diagnosis is making me think slave solenoid failure with heat soak, but wanted to bounce it off some others.

Thanks
It's my stbd that won't start. I have to use the switch between the two start switches which seems to transfer power from the port bank to the stbd. I don't have any tech expertise on this but once the port is started the system will transfer power to the weaker bank if the button between the two start buttons is pressed, like giving a jump start. Now, my uneducated guess is as follows. The Lofrans
Manual says there is a 700 watt power demand from the windlass, being 12 v dc amounts to 58 amps. Thats a lot of draw. Perhaps this is causing our need to jump or wait in your case as my scenario is the same as yours. Maby some others who have had this problem can concure. The stbd is the house bank in my 370 aft cab.

My issue was resolved when I replaced the slave solenoid.
Have you load tested each of your batteries?

I just replaced both of my starter solenoids for $60 each, after having had them tested previously— supposedly they were fine. Now my engines start first try, every time, for the first time in three years.

I don’t think I have a slave solenoid… I could be wrong. I’m learning. Everyone suspected my batteries which are pushing three years old, but for the moment everything is cranking and fine. I know batteries are on the short term horizon $.
