More progress on the hull side gel repairs. After 23 years there have been a few dock rashes and some less than desirable gel repairs. We actually believe some of the repairs may have been factory and they just never color matched properly. To order the gel we need to submit a hull #. My hull # comes back as having antique white gel so that is what was ordered. Turns out my boat is NOT antique white, it is arctic white! Luckily my expert had some arctic white from another job he is doing and could use that while waiting for the new order for my boat. Unfortunately, repairs over the previous years were done with antique white and it does not match at all. LOL

So, we have the port side wet sanded to 800 grit from the salon sink drain to the stern and we ground out the bad spots and sanded to prep for the new filler. (shown in the 2 long gouge lines). There were also 2 so-so repair spots above where we ground out the bad cracks. On the starboard side there were 3 yellow spots that were in need of assistance and I thought we would just wait until next year to tackle those. When I got to the boat today he had already prepped them for gel, so we tackled them too. He was already setup and rolling and it only took 2 hours to prep so why not do it?

Tomorrow we tackle some wet sanding on the hulls, the forward bow hatch cutout for the power cord and a large repair job on the foredeck non-skid. This was an ugly spot!!! AND, they used antique white to try and repair at some point in the past. We shall see how that comes out next week.:)

Here is the non-skid repair we have been tackling. Anything we do will be better than what this looked like. LOL
Amazingly, there is zero moisture in this entire area. We had thought with the cracks in the gel it may have allowed water to penetrate, but NADA.

This is going to take little more time to get close to right.

I didn't get a pic today but we were able to get a lot more of the antique white gel out and define the diamond pattern a little better. Tedious work, but were hoping to clean it up a bit.

We used a grinder to remove the cracks and it turned out to be air voids. After grinding we filled with gel and then we will sand down to almost flush with the deck and cut in the diamond lines. Lastly, a light coat of gel over the area. Maybe we get this done Saturday.

Transom door repair do to my screw up.

I took the door off earlier this year to polish, wet sand and add the new SR logo. While polishing it on my cart, it slipped and fell to the ground cracking out large chunks of fiberglass on the hinge side top and bottom. UGHHH!! We got it finished yesterday, but we added a little something extra. We drilled a hole on the hinge side and added a 2-part Hi bond foam. The foam made the door much more solid yet only adding a couple pounds of weight. Now when the door closes it doesn't sound hollow, it has a much better feel to it. I know, WTH right!! LOL:rolleyes: (You must be thinking, nothing better to do with your time??)

I love and respect your OCD... Keep it up!!!

I was able to cut out the port side bow hatch today. Tomorrow we will prep and seal the exposed wood/fiberglass. Monday I will take it into town and have Pro Image make the stainless plate I have been looking for. I ordered some rubber and brush parts today from McMaster-Carr to see what will work best to seal the gap when the cord is in place or not in place.
My buddy has a 510 and he also has bow power, so tomorrow I get to cut his hatch out as well. ;)

Almost done with the non-skid. The smaller spot (left of the tape) is virtually invisible now. The larger spot needs some minor attention and then we will spray new gel over the area Wednesday. It may not be factory mold perfect but it is 1,000 times better than what it was when we purchased the boat.

Looking at 400DB's and following your post here and on the 460 thread. With that in mind I have decided to change my search to the Elk Rapids area so let me know where I can drop her off for a refit.

Those era 510's have HUGE hull sides. Nice job so far-I'm a bump and paint guy so I feel the pain!
Yeah we got a few hours in on this baby, but it's going to look great when he is done this week! I own a marine storage facility up here and he works on our boats every Spring. Mine first of course LOL.

That being said, I just got him a job in Bay City next week. The best part is, he and his wife work together and she is a bad A$# gel girl herself. They tag team the jobs and it is fun to watch them work.

Not a bad arrangement! Did you put up the facility? I feel like I recall your story

Yes, we built them in 2016. It works out great for both of us because when we leave on our travel programs, they live in and watch our house while were gone. The house is 5 miles from the storage buildings so it is very convenient for them and we get house sitters for weeks at a time.

Hi All,
I hope you are enjoying a nice weekend! We saw some amazing weather this week in Northern Michigan, it made us all want to launch our boats!

I thought it might be helpful to cerate a site for all my pictures as opposed to "slamming" the CSR thread all the time. I am in NO way trying to replace this site as that would be impossible! But, I get requests from other members to post pictures all the time of previous upgrades etc. so my own shared gallery site may be helpful. Feel free to take a look if desired and I will post my pics there going forward.

Have a great weekend and for those of us that haven't floated our boats yet, we are getting closer! (27 days for us)

Very nice pictures-Your foredeck snap removal work looks top notch. I've been a bump and paint guy all my life and I can tell just by the masking whoever did it knew what they were doing. Beautiful boat.

My guy Alec and his wife Cori are TOP NOTCH! He has been doing this for almost 30 years. He used to have his own shop but got tired of employees and all the crap that goes along with it. He spent the past few years at Boyne Boat yard and Van Dam's in Boyne city. He left last summer and now they have him coming back to train guys when he can fit them in his schedule LOL. Decided to go out on his own again as a mobile shoppe. Luckily, they are very good friends and we are always first on their list. :D

Its too bad nobody want's to do trade work anymore. Does he ever get over to Lake Saint
Clair area?

No, not been there yet.
Since he lives in the U.P. now, that would be a long haul! This week he is in Bay City on my friends 540, and that is as far south as he has ever gone for work like this. He has enough to do up here keeping him busy. He just took a repair job in Munising that will take at least a month to get done. (Boater went over a break wall up there and ripped the entire transom off the boat. o_O

Here are a couple of shots of the 540 platform my friend is working on. Most importantly, the edges needed to be fully repaired. The top is going to get SeaDeck so it wasn't as critical to be perfect. He just needed to fill a bunch of old holes.

Finally got the Sea Deck finishing touches in the cockpit done. We like it as it gives some color to a very bland/white cockpit.

We are the proud new owners of a 2000 510 sundnacer, moved up from a 2000 410 with gas engines. Boat is being transported over the road from DC to Michigan. Excited for this new journey as this boat seems bigger then just the 10' extra. The Cat 3196's will be a new animal for me but have done a lot of research on them and the boat itself and this site has helped a lot so far.
Any advice for the new owners is appreciated and welcomed, thanks in advance.

Congratulations! That is a nice jump in size for sure. The beam alone will make you giddy! We bumped up from a 460 to the 510 last August, what a huge difference that was.

Over the road to Mich., wow, what a haul. Will they need to take the hard top off or will it go with just the electronics coming off? Whereabouts in Michigan will you dock her? The CAT 3196's were new for me also, but I like the fact that mechanics are everywhere for them. Enjoy your summer!
