The Official Whiskey And Spirits Thread.

If any of you can’t find your bourbons, I just started with a new online group. Top Bourbon. You might want to look into them if you are having issues finding what you like

I just found this thread and admit I have not read all of the posts. In the past 1-2 years I have become a bourbon drinker. Prior I thought Beam and Coke was the best, well now I enjoy bourbon by itself or a good Old Fashioned. I've been to 2 bourbon tasting events with my tennis buds and have learned a great deal. I even purchased a "bourbon" cabinet that doubles as an expresso station.

Current bottles in the cabinet:

Buffalo Trace
Woodford Reserve
Four Roses
Henry McKenna
Bulleit

I was at the VABC store near me a couple weeks ago and they were sold out of almost everything but Virginia gentleman and ten high. They did have Jack as well as Jim Beam but I was pretty disappointed. I used to have no trouble getting Blantons, Eagle Rare, Buffalo Trace, and Sazerac rye. These spirits should not be so difficult to obtain in Virginia.

Yeah, agreed. My bourbon tasting group in Richmond, VA sends out a text when they are in an ABC store, and find a gem, asking "who wants some?". That has been helpful.

I will let you know if I found someone the will ship into the Commonwealth

Son lives in the Lexington Kentucky area and he will tell me about small batch bourbons he's tried that I can't buy here in Ohio. When we go down to see him I'll buy a bottle of one of them but half of it evaporates before I come home.

Top Bourbon can ship into VA as long as it is less than 6 bottles. My order did come in.

Looks like you have an angel's cut problem.

Just tried Basil Haden's Toast...I'll have to keep some onboard for sure, next to the Woodford Reserve and Knobel.

If you're in DC for any reason, surprisingly the Costco in DC has some of those regularly. Pricing is pretty good too.

I'm in a Costco group on FB, and someone snagged Buffalo Trace, Blanton's and maybe the Eagle Rare. Evidently, there are some people that stalk the location and try to get ahead of the Blanton.

Whoa! How ya doin Scott?
Doing well, thanks. Did my first annual cancer screening back in January and got a good report back.

Getting back into the cruiser boating world with the purchase of a friend's 1989 390 Express. (Glad I kept my slip in Washington Park)

Hope you have been well!

Great news. Guessing your enjoying the non existent bow rise of the 390 EC beast?

Okay I am starting to get a little freaked out….. I met a group of boaters last summer that are hard core bourbon drinkers….. fortunately I had a bourbon expert on board…..so he entertained them….. they thought so much of him they asked me to join their boat club. So I did….and have several rendezvous scheduled this summer….. but starting to get nervous… I don’t know shit about bourbon. Seemed like a good idea last summer.
I just found this bourbon on the boat….probably from my buddy Mike….since I wouldn’t know to buy it….. so is it possible to fake your way thru bourbon….or do you need to know shit?

I’d be up front and say you don’t know shit. By the end of the season, you may know shit and taste some mighty fine samples of said shit.

Same with me last year, new tennis club buds started inviting me to bourbon tastings and I had to bring a bottle. I was super anxious I would buy/bring the wrong one. Don't sweat it, they never even noticed and everyone is socializing and sipping bourbon only.

First blind testing most of us selected the $40 Henry McKenna bottle over the $10000 Pappy Van Winkle bottle.

If you have to impress them look for a 10 year small batch, and don't spend more than $75, it's not worth it. Let the ones who need to impress bring their $500+ bottles to the party. My fav bourbons are all in the $40+- price point.
